Ghostbusters: Afterlife Reviews
The end result seems all the more anti-climactic because the story had started so brightly.

It’s a film that unwittingly says so much about where we are as consumers of pop culture, and that portrait is painfully depressing.

A sweet homage to the original Ghostbusters while still attempting something unique with the franchise.

Breathe of fresh air for the franchise. Funny, heartwarming, charming, exciting, nostalgic, & of course Spooky. It builds off of what made the original so good & never stopped. McKenna Grace though? SHES A STAR🥲

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a feel-good blockbuster that asks the same question: who 'ya gonna call?

The same things that happened in Ghostbusters (US, 1984) happen here, the only difference is that here, they happen with preadolescents. [Full review in Spanish]

Reitman directs a homage that sprinkles in links to its predecessor so heartily that it's probably easier to name the scenes and details that don't scream "hey, this is Ghostbusters!" as loudly as possible.

Ghostbusters Afterlife doesn't do anything original with its narrative, but its new setting and earnest heart manage to make this franchise feel worth the revisit one more time.

Slow, overly respectful, and crushingly earnest, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is proof that fans should always be careful what they wish for.
| Original Score: 5/10 | Apr 10, 2022
For our part, we found it thoroughly entertaining, and while it may have one too many throwbacks to the original, Afterlife avoids the mistakes of Halloween 2018 and The Force Awakens by concocting a new story rather than retreading the original movie.

The magnitude of the sheer awfulness of this inane waste of time cannot be overstated. It doesn't need your dollars; it needs an exorcism.

The movies are a different business to when Ghostbusters was released in 1984. Afterlife spans the gap admirably, and will satisfy old fans even as it tempts in new ones.

This film puts an effective period on the saga, for me at least. Unless the writers can come up with something other than riffs on the original, I’m afraid the bittersweet nostalgia of Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the sort of thing that can only work once.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 25, 2022
As a shamelessly pandering retread of a played-out franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is about as good as it feasibly could be.

If you have fond memories of the original Ghostbusters from 1984, youll enjoy Ghostbusters: Afterlife,

Combine the respect that Ghostbusters had for the original content with the amazing lead, and supporting cast, and you've got a recipe for making anything possible, namely making me cry.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was the film Jason Reitman was destined to write and direct. Its a cinematic love letter to not just fans of the franchise but cinephiles.
