It’s a shame, great premise but in the end disjointed and on one or two occasions gets a little lost. It’s okay but that’s it.

I am a huge fan of historical films, so Golda caught my attention in the list of Oscar nominations. A wartime biopic, the film shares the history of the Yom Kippur War from October 1973 from the perspective of Golda Meir, Israel’s first female Prime Minister. The film has a strong start. The opening montage of Israeli history leading up to the film’s period of focus is engaging, and our first views of Helen Mirren as Golda Meir are striking. There are some weak points throughout the film though. The score suddenly becomes eerie at times, as if for a psychological thriller (which this movie is not), unnecessarily discordant. Exception story and superb acting! I high recommend this movie.

Really interesting movie! Great performance by Mirren! The use of radio and news footage was done very well, but got a bit old by the end. Worth watching! 4 stars

Good historical account..I studied in this area and found it interesting. I get some people found it boring..but it's not the standard American navy seal fantasy movie..this is more historic reality. Helen M was excellent. A very complex area still.

Como es de imaginar, Helen Mirren es el alma de la película, en el papel de la Primer Ministro de Israel y, ahí está el problema: la trama se centra más en el personaje en sí que en el conflicto bélico, que quizá debió dársele más atención. En el fondo, la película no es mala, después de todo.

Excellent movies if you want to learn how to smoke. I hope Elen did not smoke all those cigarettes. Leaves the viewer confused. Better ways of wasting time and money.

Helen Mirren is unrecognizable (hence the Oscar nomination for Best Hairstyling & Makeup) in this somewhat effective biopic of former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meier, during the Yom Kippur war when Israel was invaded by Egypt and Syria. Mirren is excellent as you would expect, but the screenplay doesn't quite live up to the level of it's leading lady.
