Hell Fest Reviews

Apr 16, 2025

This movie deserves more credit than it gets. It’s not a modern day art house masterpiece but, it is a pretty damn good slasher. The characters are fun, it has some good gore and suspense, the whole set design was pretty awsome! I can honestly say I might rank this one slightly higher than Haunt!

"Hell Fest" offers a refreshing break from the typical ironic or nostalgic takes on the slasher genre, presenting a straightforward, no-frills horror experience. The film’s greatest strength lies in its setting—a sprawling amusement park turned haunted house, which provides a thrilling backdrop for the terror that unfolds. Despite its simplicity, Hell Fest manages to deliver some genuinely scary moments. The production design by Michael Perry is particularly impressive, invoking various horror traditions and paying homage to the works of Tobe Hooper. Each set piece is meticulously crafted to maximize the scares, making the amusement park itself feel like a character in the story. One of the standout aspects is the nuanced portrayal of female friendship, adding a layer of depth to the otherwise familiar slasher dynamics. While the characters and their interactions can feel a bit contrived and derivative, there’s a certain charm in their camaraderie that keeps you invested. However, the film is not without its flaws. The plot is fairly predictable, and the character development is minimal, leaving you wanting more depth and originality. Some of the dialogue feels awkward and forced, resembling a caricature of how middle schoolers might speak. Additionally, the climax, though intense, could have been better planned to avoid feeling rushed and anticlimactic. Overall, Hell Fest is a fun, albeit familiar, ride through haunted house horror. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t try to. Instead, it embraces its role as a straightforward slasher, delivering frights and thrills without overcomplicating things. If you’re looking for a horror movie that’s more about the experience than the story, this one might just be your ticket to a good scare.

I am giving this a 5/5! Don't get me wrong there are plenty of better horror movies out there. But as a lover of all things horror, I loved this. If you want something that is Halloween themed then this is right up your alley it was absolutely simple there was nothing hard about this film and it was just absolutely fun.

The entire movie is a major filmmaking pet peeve of mine: when a story is set at a concert or sports arena or theme park etc, and completely ignores how those events actually play out with crowds/other patrons. Hell Fest, a movie about theme park haunts doesn’t reflect how those haunts really function in any way, shape or form. Entire haunt mazes just for you and friends?! It’s lazy in every aspect of the filmmaking process and completely destroys my willing suspension of disbelief.

This is NOT a groundbreaking movie, but it's classic horror done well. If you like slasher/horror movies this will certainly do the trick! It's a lot of fun!

A fairly good low-budget horror movie, with a twist. You may want to check this out for Halloween.

Hell Fest is one of the most bland and mediocre slashers of the past decade, although there is some decent acting from the main cast and solid effects work that sadly doesn't go in on practical gore.

I quite enjoyed this film. In Canada there is a place near Toronto called Canada's Wonderland. At Halloween time they have something similar to this film. I enjoyed the film and I believe the premise was quite enjoyable despite its flaws which every movie has. You get a group of teens, some cliched but that's ok and you start killing them off. It was a smart way in which it was being done and i won't spoil things, but you'll tell where they should have done more. It's a fun movie, it knows what it is and doesn't try to be more than that. Is it very scary, not overly. But let yourself imagine being in that predicament and have fun with it.

Not groundbreaking by any means, but some of the visuals are decent as well as a few kills. I must admit, most of the main characters were annoying, not sure if they meant that so you would be happy when they die, but regardless, pretty much besides Natalie and Gavin, I loathed the others, especially Taylor, way too over the top for me. Lots of unnecessary over-acting as well. I give it a star for the atmosphere and kills, and added a half for Tony Todd.

While the concept isn’t new, this movie is pretty great…and scary, mixed with some Corey scenes. Love Amy from Channel Zero, and she’s the only reason I gave it a shot. It’s a movie when there’s nothing else on, I’ll put the n because I enjoy watching it, despite the many times I’ve seen it. Some of the cast was annoying at times, but this movie is definitely worth a watch!

Decent enough if you want a horror movie running in the background when scrolling your phone. Very generic.

I mean it's okay? there's literally like 2 good actresses in the whole thing which was the toughest part for me…can normally get through eh scripts/concepts with good acting but most of the acting was mid at best :/

It had it's moments, tension built well here and there. I almost dropped it within first 20ish minutes but I pushed through and received a few kills none of which was memorable, which kind of ruined the build up of waiting for them to happen. Ending was a pleasant surprise, maybe we'll receive a 2nd installment that'll correct the mistakes of the 1st one

A fun fresh breath of air in a classic slasher formula.

Hell Fest is the epitome of what modern horror has become; excessive bloody murder, a bland plot and effects outweighing everything else to add more to shock than actual heart. Asides from a few scenes of praise, Hell Fest is just another drop in the ocean for the horror genre.

Forgetful horror flick.
