In a Violent Nature Reviews

Nash has managed to flip the workings of the slasher flick on its head.

| Original Score: 7/10 | Jan 28, 2025

This is a hugely cine-literate work, made with a palpable love for the genre and actively rewarding the viewer for interacting with the action the way they always have done.

| Original Score: 8/10 | Dec 11, 2024

The characters are a bit thin, but this is a slasher tradition. The change in point of view is one of the strong points here.

| Nov 6, 2024

Form without substance is pure gimmickry, and while Nash plants some ideas about the unflinching amorality of nature, he fails to dig deep enough to make them germinate. [Full review in Spanish]

Sickos, take heed: In a Violent Nature is some fairly innovative wickedness. It defies enough of the conventional rules of the genre, it might be the final nail in the slasher-movie coffin.

| Sep 14, 2024

It's not a traditional slasher, but a film that turns the WAY the genre has been treated on its head, changing quick cuts and talkative characters for a mute killer, victims we learn very little of, and a calm directing style. Full review in Spanish.

I feel very strongly about the movie, in that I think it's cool but has a bunch of unfortunate implications for future slasher movies...

It is so ruthlessly, mercilessly, casually, relentlessly, violent that it will deter lots of viewers, which is understandable but unfortunate for the director because I think he is making a point about the slasher movie genre.

In A Violent Nature may well be the best horror film of 2024. It won’t work for everyone, but this writer found it extremely interesting and invigorating.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 9, 2024

In a Violent Nature is a fierce-but-flawed attempt at a brave concept that would’ve worked better as a shorter film shot completely using its killer’s point-of-view.

| Aug 5, 2024

Very smart, very savvy horror-satire that lets us watch a bunch of idiot twenty-somethings wander helplessly into a horror movie from the cold, deadened perspective of their brutal (and wickedly sympathetic) murderer.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 2, 2024

A brilliant little shocker with an entirely appropriate title.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 1, 2024

… a worthy attempt at doing something a little different with the well-worn genre.

| Original Score: 12/20 | Aug 1, 2024

In a Violent Nature is plain vicious and there’s no keeping Johnny down.

| Jul 31, 2024

With great cinematography and shots to complement the blood bath to come, Chris Nash demonstrates a promising start to his directing career.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 28, 2024

In a Violent Nature will not be for everyone, as it is too cerebral and obscure with its genre intentions to fully cater to horror fans. If one were to go along with its daring, hypnotic, and subversive approach they will find plenty to savour here.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Jul 28, 2024

In a Violent Nature is going to be divisive; however, fans with an open mind looking for a fresh take on the tired genre will be pleasantly surprised.

| Original Score: 8/10 | Jul 25, 2024

For film fans looking for new formal ways to explore horror. [Full review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 24, 2024

Chris Nash crafts a refined exercise in terror that is as violently explicit as it is disturbing and precise in its management of pauses, waits, and the unimaginable. [Full review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 22, 2024

Is it merely a nerdy exercise for genre aficionados? There is an element of that, sure. But I do believe that those who agree to meet this film on its own strange terms will be pleasantly surprised.
