In Darkness Reviews
Natalie Dormer gives a passionate performance in a thriller with a moody style but not many interesting new ideas.

The film is a welcome change to the British thriller landscape.

The final reveal may have you scratching your head, but damn if [Anthony] Byrne and [Natalie] Dormer don't pull it off with aplomb.

It is an interesting experiment. And because of the powerful interpretation of Dormer, the artifact is held with a lot of dignity. [Full Review in Spanish]

I found a lot to love with IN DARKNESS.

There are a lot of great moments here, unfortunately, they just don't mesh into a cohesive whole.

In Darkness feels like the sort of sexy, psychological thriller that the likes of Sharon Stone or Faye Dunaway used to appear in.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 9, 2018
It feels like three long seasons of quality television squashed into one savagely overstuffed cinematic piata.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 6, 2018
A talented cast and a handsome sense of time and place can't save this thriller from being caught in a cliche-ridden and uninspiring undertow.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 6, 2018
This initially promising blind-woman-in-peril thriller soon loses its way.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 5, 2018
It wants to convert Atomic Blonde into Atomic Blind.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 5, 2018
Very trashy, very silly, not unenjoyable on some basic level.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 5, 2018
Despite a compelling opening, In Darkness ultimately reveals itself to be a substandard thriller, its increasingly ludicrous plot becoming irritating rather than entertaining, and eventually it feels like it doesn't actually matter how the film will end.
| Original Score: 5/10 | Jul 2, 2018
Those who do brave Byrne's silly, distasteful film will be rewarded with a twist that renders everything that went before it as complete and utter gibberish.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 2, 2018
What could have been an exciting thriller with a complex, well-written female protagonist instead ends up being a convoluted and messy misfire.
| Jun 22, 2018
The first third of the story then presents [the protagonist] like a typical Hitchcock ingenue before branching out into a promisingly ambitious mystery. Too bad that story ultimately loses focus and its protagonist's point of view.

In Darkness may feature a fantastic performance from Natalie Dormer but the rest of the film falters in bringing anything new, or even remotely exciting, to the table.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 31, 2018
In Darkness increases the tension with dramatic and extreme angles, extreme close-ups, and a play on sound that dramatizes even the simplest of scenes.
| Original Score: 4/5 | May 30, 2018
This thriller starts well and has worthy elements -- especially a strong female character, co-created by Dormer herself -- but the plot eventually becomes needlessly stretched-out and convoluted.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 25, 2018
In Darkness is certainly watchable and, as dull as the proceedings might be, checks many of the boxes that one looks for when trying to ignore turbulence on an airplane. It's fast-paced, good-looking and Dormer has the ability to carry a movie.
