Inside Reviews
2 stars for Willem Dafoe who is great but can't save this one
absolute beauty, great actor great movie….
It's a great film if you don't overthink it and happen to love Willem Dafoe. It's Cast Away, but without Wilson — and with Tom Hanks sets the entire island on fire. Side note: I like the Macarena fridge, but I would absolutely die of a panic attack two hours into this whole situation.
Without Willem Dafoe and some nice pieces of art, this film would be a less successful remake of Cast Away. But the thing is, there’s Willem Dafoe and some admirable art.
Worth a watch as from the very beginning we see this thief trapped in the apartment and with no easy way out, then William Dafoe gives us a great acting performance about the perception of art, technology, isolation, survival, sanity....we feel trapped in time , in space and even if it goes a bit bunkers at times the movie provides matter to think and is even philosophical often... The end is deceiving though as it doesn't answer any of the movie's ideas nor really set an end to the story! Even with its open ended end I enjoyed this weird movie
INSIDE is a powerful reflection on how luxury, materialism, and societal expectations trap us, both physically and mentally. The protagonist, surrounded by expensive art, high-end design, and cutting-edge technology, slowly realizes that all these things—once symbols of status—mean nothing when true freedom is lost. His attempt to steal a valuable portrait is symbolic: in a world where art is bought and sold rather than created and felt, even creativity becomes a commodity, stripped of its true essence. The film exposes how we are conditioned to believe that the more expensive something is, the more valuable it must be. But this is an illusion. The protagonist is stuck in a penthouse filled with “priceless” objects, yet he is starving, desperate, and alone. The ultimate irony is that all this wealth, all this so-called culture, is useless when real survival and real freedom are at stake. As his situation worsens, he starts to create his own art—not for status, not for money, but out of pure necessity. But by then, it’s almost too late. This speaks to a deeper truth: real art, real creativity, and real freedom can’t be bought. They come from within. The film suggests that society has made us prisoners of our own desires, feeding us the lie that possessions define us. But in the end, all of it—money, luxury, even the art hanging on the walls—is meaningless compared to true creative freedom. And if that freedom is taken away, what remains? Perhaps, as the film implies, the only real escape is to break free completely—even if that means disappearing forever.
A complete waste of time and super low-budget. Had to watch on fast-forward. They couldn't even be nice to show how he exited the house, we have to imagine it.
Worst movie I’ve ever seen. It started out kinda interesting but it quickly lost any appeal. I couldn’t even finish watching it because it was so bizarre! Ugh.
I love Dafoe, even saw him live in NYC years ago. His performance is flawless. But the script and theme were not worth the 90 min.
First off, William Defoe is stellar as always, BUT, this was almost 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. While I do appreciate films with a deeper meaning etc, this was just too much and worst of all, a massive missed opportunity. I kept waiting for a more concise ending, but this was just a artistic wank session. If it ended up being revealed that everything he went through was actually planned so that he was a living art show (or to that effect) given the apartment owners obsession with art, that would of been perfect. But it was just another convoluted "commentary" film on the nature of man bla bla bla. Snore.
"Inside" earns a solid 3 stars, driven by Willem Dafoe's brilliant performance in an unusual, minimalist thriller. As a big Dafoe fan, I went in with high hopes, and he doesn’t disappoint; watching him descend into madness as he's trapped in a luxury apartment was mesmerizing. The film is intentionally slow, so it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but the pace helps build the sense of isolation and claustrophobia, even if it dragged a bit too much for me at times. The camerawork is fantastic, capturing the sterile beauty of the space and Dafoe’s unraveling mind. One standout was the unexpected Macarena scene, adding a bit of dark humor. Plus, seeing a Belgian actor pop up was a nice surprise. Though it felt hollow and lacking depth in places, "Inside" kept me engaged—mostly because of Dafoe’s intensity and commitment.
This is a not a fun film to watch, but I feel unlike most post covid media this movie is the most accurate portrayal of what true isolation insanity looks like. We've had films like castaway, we've had social experiment concepts that explore humanity, but if you just want to watch one guy lose his mind in a condo this is it. Everything about it is realistic, diminished appetite, remote cravings for social interaction, mumbling to yourself. I think if the pandemic went on much longer we'd all be building totem poles and worshipping our own versions of God. This was never gonna be a winner of a script, with lines that read "then Willam Dafoe spent 3 months pooping in a bathtub," but for the exactly 5 people who can look past the misery porn and bad vibes to find the message. This is the ultimate covid flick on Amazon Prime!
This is a good movie. I believe it is interesting if you try and find the deeper meanings but I also believe it is just entertaining without thinking too deeply about it. I hate to see the people leaving negative reviews for it being slow, its a movie with one actor in it, of course it feels slow, although I didn't actually feel it was slow, it kept me engaged more than I expected.
Shockingly, they made a movie about an art thief interesting. Original and insanely good.
A fascinating one-man show starring Willem Dafoe. If you like Willem Dafoe, it is very well-worth watching.
Absolutely brilliant, but you need to be able to read it.
Filme lento, chato, sem cenas memoráveis, diálogos mesmo sendo poucos é chato, não leva a lugar nenhum. Não existe nada que dê para aproveitar neste filme, não recomendo a ninguém.
Cross between buried and cast away. Defoe definitely carries it.
Muy lenta para su propio bien, aunque el actor sí que se luce mucho.
