Jawbreaker Reviews

Full Review | Original Score: 2/4 | Mar 10, 2007

Lame shock scenes, crucial plot points inserted without setups, and an unsuccessful attempt to exploit the camp value of some actors cast in minor parts are the least of the problems in this black comedy.

The producers of this film, which depicts teen-age girls as an assemblage of negative stereotypes, are female. Can females practice misogyny?

Full Review | Jul 21, 2005

Only the soundtrack (the Donnas, Imperial Teen) and the irrepressible McGowan make it fractionally more bearable.

Full Review | Nov 7, 2002

It's a tired lousy movie, a terrible twosome that deserves your heartfelt indifference.

Full Review | Nov 6, 2002

Not quite a satire, not quite an homage, Jawbreaker falls into a third category: audaciously unoriginal.

A slick production of a lame script!

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Jan 1, 2000

A synthetic yet shrill sadomasochistic cartoon!

| Original Score: C+ | Jan 1, 2000

It's Heathers without the wry wit, Blackboard Jungle sans the fun, Very Bad Things with more ick.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Jan 1, 2000

Not enough here that's new.

Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Jan 1, 2000

Imitative of Heathers, but not nearly as witty or engaging.

Full Review | Original Score: C | Jan 1, 2000

One-liners tumble over one another, dulling their own impact. Plot points hurl from the screen with velocity, but fizzle from a lack of inspiration.

Full Review | Jan 1, 2000

Why sit through a lesser imitation, when you could just rent Heathers and those other movies for a far more enjoyable time?

| Jan 1, 2000

The lowest piece of garbage to hit screens in months.

| Original Score: 0/4 | Jan 1, 2000

The worst movie I've seen in 1999.

| Jan 1, 2000

Jawbreaker may promise a series of gleefully cheap thrills, but in the end all it delivers is a whole lot of bad taste.

| Jan 1, 2000

Not particularly funny or trenchant.
