Julie & Julia Reviews

The film contains wonderful performances but loses our attention when food and the love of cooking are no longer the central themes.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Sep 4, 2023

A supremely satisfying performance dished up by that indefatigable Streep.

| Original Score: 4.5/5 | Aug 4, 2022

There is something incredibly wholesome and charming within the film

The drama, comedy, and cooking is all skillfully balanced, although with a two-hour runtime, the pacing isn't the most perceptive.

| Original Score: 7/10 | Nov 29, 2020

Easily one of the most wonderful surprises of Summer 2009.

| Original Score: 3.5/4.0 | Sep 13, 2020

To belabor the inevitable food metaphors, it is a delicious, escapist confection best savored in the moment, with no expectation that it will sustain you in the days ahead.

I left feeling surprisingly buoyant, with a warm heart, and a smile.

The film, as a whole, is a light, frothy concoction that entertains and mostly satisfies.

This is a great one for [Valentine's Day].

| Original Score: 6/10 | May 13, 2019

The film brings back a bygone time - which Julie proves we can resurrect, as long as we're willing to call in sick now and then - when life was something to be savored, not rushed through.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Dec 6, 2018

[Amy Adams'] half of the film plays like a below-par rom-com, so here's the question: is the good half good enough? Probably, yes, but then I would watch Meryl rearranging a closet. It's just the way I am.

A true pleasure. [Full review in Spanish]

I liked Julie & Julia. I loved Streep's performance, and when Jane Lynch shows up as Julia's sister, treat yourself to even more fun.

Julie & Julia was pure entertainment. The title of this film should be amended to Julie, Julia, & Nora. Nora Ephron's script and direction, along with the performances of Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, add up to one joyous picture.

Overall, a delicious film.

Streep is mannered and camp... gleefully impersonating Child's eccentric demeanour and hooting voice. Yet her performance brims over with such joy and mirth and love that it's hard not to be won over.

Julie & Julia is a delectable cinematic concoction about two food-loving women.

Streep does an amazing job bringing television cooking legend Julia Child to life and making us smile every frame of the way.
