Kindergarten Cop Reviews
Absolute Schwarzenegger masterpiece. A must watch. It's very funny with a clever twist of action and mystery.
Kindergarten cop is the kind of movie you would think that would be a BF. Big Flop. Instead it's NB Not Bad. This movie proves that Arnold Schwarzenegger has a comedic side. It's so different than his usual Terminator type roles. It's definitely an action comedy. The beginning there's a lot of action. Some parts of the movie are probably not suitable for kids under the age of 12. But as the movie progresses there are moments of hilarity. Like when detective John Kimble meets the kindergarten kids for the first time. There are some family friendly moments. The part where John brings his pet ferret to class. There's enough action scenes & LOL moments to keep the most finicky moviegoer in their seats. Don't want to give away any spoiler alerts but John Kimble & his partner aren't the only heroes in the film. They get a Little help from a furry friend.
Perfect movie with a happy ending! Perfect for kids, too!
Kindergarten Cop - 9/10. Ivan Reitman joined hands with his Twins star Arnold Schwarzenegger for this really wonderful (and highly underrated) picture. In fact, out of Schwarzenegger's long and illustrious career as a blockbuster star, he cited this film as his all time favourite. On the surface Kindergarten Cop acts as a family friendly picture, but when you watch the film you realize its a well crafted darker family film. Not many family movies feature scenes like the beginning investigation sequences, or the surprisingly dark bathroom shootout in the climax. This is one of the reasons this film stands out a lot more compared to other family films from the 90s. Reitman knows how to utilize his star and how to blend his action persona with lighter comedic material. Though Twins saw him in a lighter role, this film literally feels like a remix of his action roles being thrown into a funny situation. The idea of a fish out of water situation with Arnold's cop being thrown into a teacher position is hilarious. The movie banks off the comedy of his character having to deal with the young children and how his unorthodox teaching methods rubs his colleagues in a funny way. A lot of times we always think of Arnold as this Goliath of a persona, but this film captured an earnest nature that is absent in many of Arnold's films. He seems really at home, and he still gets to play up his action persona, while also being able to explore his softer side. Its one of my favourite films growing up, and one I've watched countless times. Its also one Arnold's most quotable films. A delightful film that deserves more credit for being more than just a formulaic family film.
A story a little bit more interesting than those kind of movies usually are. Funny and entertaining for a family movie night.
A terrific movie. Alot of fun.
The plot of this movie is genius and Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the role of Mr. Kimble so effectively. It’s a really funny movie that has some touching moments. Not to mention the score in this movie is also great
If you’re expecting an Adam Sandler styled comedy with lots of screaming, you will be slightly disappointed. But the movie is like an Adam Sandler film, but without all the annoying energy of the aforementioned movies. But it has two tones, a goofy comedy, and a detective thriller. The thriller stuff is affective, but in my opinion it feels out of place and frankly, a bit too real and something that could actually happen, which I don’t want to think of during a movie. The characters are pretty one dimensional, the only one who I really like and care about is Mr. Kimble (played by the chad Arnold Shawarzeneggar). The kindergarteners are funny though, the movie is charming, but the movie switches from a funny light hearted comedy to a dark thriller that is too intense for the audience it’s intended for. There is also lots of subplots that don’t serve a point. But underneath all of this is a decent film, the kindergarten stuff is charming and occasionally funny, Kimbles bond with the kids is wholesome, and the thriller elements are affective and makes you questions if the characters will make it out alive. This movie is worth being watched once, maybe don’t show this to the younger kids though.
Could’ve been worse than what it is
It was an entertaining movie. Arnold as always was great in his role as tough guy, but showed in this movie he can do comedy also. And in 2024 I would suggest that many watch this to help you figure out what a girl is
Kindergarten Cop is really the best action comedy of the 90's, Schwarzenegger did really great doing action comedy and really amazing children actors including one child actor who's already is a voice actor did really performance.
Maybe not for younger kids but as an adult I found its mix of mild action and romantic comedy to be hugely enjoyable. Arnie gives an excellent performance playing largely against type and demonstrates some nice comedy timing. Enjoyed it on its release and having recently rewatched this it's aged very well. The score on RT seems remarkably low for what is a very good movie.
I used to watch Kindergarten Cop all the time when I was younger, so I was excited to show it to my children. It may have been a little intense for my younger kids. I had forgotten how this is only a light-hearted comedy in the middle of the story, but it’s an action film at the beginning at the end. This really is an entertaining movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger fits the role of the uninitiated teacher quite well, but the real selling point is the kid actors. They are adorable and they do such a good job. I also really like Pamela Reed’s performance. I definitely give Kindergarten Cop a passing grade.
I found this movie to be fun and exciting. Arnold was in rare form around the children and let's not forget..."boys have a penis, girls have a vagina."😁
Such a fun film with over the top scenarios, it half action half SNL sketches stringing along silliness and fun, who am I, I'm the party poopper, oh it's fun and silly an enjoyable watch. Arnold is just having fun in this one.
Kindergarten Cop was an amazing movie. Arnold Swartzenegger is most well known for a little movie called Terminator. Now believe it or not I have never watched Terminator before, but John Kimble would act like Terminator in my mind. I swear this guy has killed at least 20 people before. If I was to ever see Terminator, John Kimble would be him. At the beginning I was surprised he wasn't the bad guy. Anyway, when The Kimble steps into that Kindergarten class he feels much better behaved. He is at least trying to teach the kids and guess what? When they get annoying he doesn't even pull out a gun!! Guess what? He doesn't even threaten them at all!!!! That Kindergarten class really grew on Kimble. At the beginning he was a hot tempered violent stern person. At the end he became a fun, caring, and loyal person. This character development is predictable but it's a lot. This is like Ebenezer Scrooge character development and the Grinch development!! Believe it or not, this is a divorce movie. Wait what?! A movie like Kindergarten Cop is a divorce movie?! Well it is. There's one side to this movie which is light hearted and funny and there's another side which deals with a serious topic like divorce and is a little more deep. This movie is better as a light hearted comedy, but I like how it tried to address more serious topics. This movie has two themes. #1 is that someone even younger than you can enlighten you and change your life. #2 is that even when you parents don't love each other that doesn't mean that they don't love you. Even though this movie has R-rated potty humor ( you know the line ), it still has serious themes. You could say that this movie doesn't deserve its bad rating ( 51%🍀 54%🍿) and that it is underrated, but I like these ratings for this movie. This movie is underrated, but I think the rating fit this movie. These rating really tell you that this movie can be super light hearted and grim at the same time. If this movie had really good ratings people would have high expectations for this movie, making it even more of an outcast then it is now. Then again, some people might get drawn away because of the bad ratings. If there's a movie that has bad ratings on Rotten Tomatoes it doesn't always mean it's bad. Sometimes people compare it to other really good movies and sometimes that movie pales in comparison to the other movie. But that doesn't mean it's bad. People also might think that the movie doesn't have enough depth and is too light hearted. Well some movie are just made like that. When they are, you have to appreciate it. What a good movie. I give this movie a 78%🍅.
IT IS A GOOD MOVIE BUT THERE ARE SOME PARTS THAT ARE A LITTLE MORE MATTURE BUT ONCE YPU PASS THOSE PARTS IT CAN BE A RIOT ESPECIALLY IN THE BEGINNING I RECOMEND I LIKE THE MOVIE SO MUCH I BOUGHT THE VHS TAPE NOT TO LONG AGO. PERFECT FOR ARNOLD FANS ONE OF THE FIRST ARNOLD MOVIES I HAD SEEN. :]
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I can't tell you how many times I've seen it, probably somewhere in the triple digits. Yet, despite it's age, the movie has held up better than most over the years. Directed by Ivan Reitman of Ghostbusters fame, this movie is one of the most infinitly quotable movies ever filmed, even if the source has long since been forgotten. But this isn't JUST a movie about a cop going undercover as a kindergarten teacher. It goes deeper than that. Eagle-eyed viewers will catch the the numerous instances of foreshadowing or the references to Arnold Schwarzenegger's sizable body of work as an action star. Plus, how can we ignore composer Randy Edelman's score? Every time the main theme starts playing I get emotional.
A classic 90's Arnie action- predictable but enjoyable fun although at times uncomfortable themes are discussed in an otherwise family movie.
