King of Thieves Reviews
Once the heist itself has been pulled off we see the men slowly let their greed take over. They start to mistrust one another, never fully aware of just how much they’ve snagged. This can and has worked before, but it doesn’t here.

King of Thieves harbors no illusions about ensnaring the viewer's nostalgia for the British gangster films that inspired it, nor does it hesitate to shower affection onto its cast.

The attempt at a crossover between a cockney-style Ealing comedy and a gritty criminal drama feels disjointed and, given the talent involved, a little amateurish.

The story of the biggest burglary in British legal history, committed by a group of elderly and experienced thieves in 2015. A great story and a great cast, both of which deserved a better film.

Much like the characters, though, its joints are creaky and its foundations crumble.

Almost nothing works in 'King of Thieves', the new film by British director James Marsh. [Full review in Spanish]

King of Thieves feels a lot like a straight-to-DVD crime film that you might watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon when you're a bit tired or hungover.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 27, 2020
The film as a whole is fun but it loses steam in the last third or so and the epilogue of text on black background brings it down a lot in its last few minutes.

King of Thieves is executed without the expertise, care, technique or involuntary humor of an authentic crime story. [Full Review in Spanish]

These esteemed British actors are plotting a heist and indulging in some choice Cockney slang - if you've ever wanted to see Jim Broadbent smash a chair and menace an associate with the debris, this is your movie.

It's kind of a mishmash of tones... [But] these guys could just sit around and have tea and talk and it would be enormously watchable.

A bungled mess, disappointing given the cinematic nature of the story and the fine cast.

What King Of Thieves truly manages to do is to rob you of almost two hours of your time.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 9, 2019
Caine's legacy as the go-to Cockney criminal in the best thrillers of the 1960s and 1970s deserves better than this uneven blend of feel-good comedy, caper movie and Caine tribute show.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 8, 2019
There's laughs to be had watching these quasi-incompetent characters but they can't do enough to elevate the material into something more memorable.

Directed with a love for criminal procedural detail by James Marsh, the film has its humourous moments, but this...is essentially a hard drama about hard men who remain hard no matter how old they are.

The Hatton Gardens heist was a ballsy operation. You can't say the same about King of Thieves.

Michael Caine can barely keep this irregular film afloat. [Full Review in Spanish]

A cast of late career British legends make this occasionally wobbly true crime caper seem sharper and funnier than it really is.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Mar 2, 2019
A disappointingly dour affair and not exactly the rollicking adventure about a bunch of old geezers pulling off a successful heist that we might have expected.
