Lamb Reviews
I laughed out loud... and had nightmares later.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 12, 2021
The director, Valdimar Johannsson, treats the admittedly ridiculous material with a convincing, deadpan seriousness and is supported at every step by his star performer on impeccable form.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 10, 2021
Much about director Valdimar Jóhannsson's film has the timeless feel of the ancient folk tale you feel it must be, but isn't.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 9, 2021
Centred by a committed, affecting performance by Noomi Rapace, Lamb gets over its longueurs and missteps with interesting ideas, filmmaking craft and a unique tone of voice.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 9, 2021
Refreshing work from Rapace even if the film itself isn't perfect.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 8, 2021
It's a great performance from Rapace.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 7, 2021
It may feel almost formalist, it may ask a lot, constantly challenging the audience into grappling with its fable-like story, but it's certainly not going to be like any other movie you see this year.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Nov 2, 2021
Johannsson is not without audacity, and the shot that finally tells us where all this has been heading certainly took me aback. But I have to be honest: it also made me burst out laughing.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Oct 22, 2021
Lamb captures grief by oscillating between the beautiful and the horrific.

At any rate, it's well worth a visit from the adventurous cinemagoer...
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 15, 2021
Lamb is still ridiculous but by way of being something of a modern fable, a slice of atmospheric folk horror for today's audiences. At its core, there's a genuinely affecting story about parenthood and the burden of loss.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 15, 2021
Does it work? Not entirely, but Jóhannsson doesn't let that stop him from grabbing the jugular and refusing to let go until the viewer is almost entirely out of breath.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Oct 13, 2021
It's the sweetest, most touching waking nightmare you've ever experienced.
| Oct 11, 2021
Lamb struggles to make clear how much sincerity or acceptance we should apply to what is happening on screen, and the result is both narrative and emotional murkiness.
| Oct 9, 2021
"Lamb" preens and strains to be admired even as it reduces its characters to pieces on a game board and its actors to puppets.
| Oct 9, 2021
It's frustrating that there's so little to it, that it feels like it could have been a great short instead of an underwhelming feature...
| Oct 8, 2021
Plays like a folk tale and thrums like a horror movie.
| Oct 8, 2021
Ominous mountains look down upon the pastoral arena where this fantastical yet meditative rural drama plays out; it's a modern folk tale about the strange realities of life and death that such a closeness to nature affords.
| Oct 7, 2021
It's easy to make light of the narrative's goofy side, but that's OK -- this is a shaggy lamb story expertly told.
| Oct 7, 2021
[Lamb] leaves a unique enough aftertaste for one to crave more of the same distinctive weirdness from Jóhannsson in the future.
