Land of Bad Reviews

It is kind of ironic how I have just seen Land of Bad and yet I could genuinely not tell you what it was about. And this is the biggest flaw of the film: it is missing its heart, the very reason why it should have been made in the first place.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Sep 14, 2024

Gung ho goodness tempered with the hint of a self-satiric edge, it’s a bit of a rough diamond.

| Original Score: 3 | Sep 4, 2024

This is a solid, all-around B-side action adventure. Liam Hemsworth doesn’t exactly anchor it all, but he does a fine job of giving Kinney the right mix of nerves and ability. I wanted more time with Crowe's eccentric triggerman.

It gets the job done, and it’s far superior to most nearly-straight-to-streaming action schlock.

The appeal of this one is simple, and includes better-staged action sequences than from a typical blockbuster these days.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Jul 29, 2024

While it stretches credibility, it provides some well-staged adrenaline jolts for fans of the genre.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 26, 2024

Crowe and Hemsworth make the fairly pat play watchable.

Director and co-writer William Eubank assures this is a well-executed by-the-numbers action-thriller from a rock-solid filmmaker who might be able to do something significant with a bigger budget someday.

We’re in the “try anything once” phase of Russell Crowe’s career, and he’s wearing it well.

| Original Score: 3/5 | May 1, 2024

…a healthy looking budget for large-scale action, a big-name cast and lots of dramatic detail…if you dig gritty genre flicks like Mile 22 or Lone Survivor, you’ll lap up the attitude here…

| Original Score: 4/5 | Apr 24, 2024

There's a great movie in here, but as Eubank cuts between Playboy escaping a compound and Reaper buying cheese, it never quite emerges.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 27, 2024

'Land of Bad' is a fine war movie—maybe not on the level of, say, 'Platoon,' but easily in the same ballpark as '13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.'

| Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 23, 2024

Land of Bad is an action film with very well photographed combat scenes, as well as hand-to-hand fights. All of this, however, lacks some verisimilitude... [Full review in Spanish]

Fortunately there is Crowe, who steals the film almost without having to get up from his chair, in his new role as a supporting actor brimming with humor, nobility and cinematic charisma. [Full review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 14, 2024

Beyond a few excesses, the absence of character motivation is appreciated: No one is there because they are convinced of the United States' role as world police or want a better world for their family... [Full review in Spanish]

Very human characters help unfold this old-fashioned war thriller. [Full review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 7/10 | Mar 12, 2024

A goofy, distracting Russell Crowe is the only element to generate a reaction in this soulless extraction exercise oscillating between drastic tonal shifts.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 12, 2024

...a briskly-paced actioner...

| Original Score: 3/4 | Mar 7, 2024

There isn't any story that we haven't been through a thousand times, and you know exactly every beat.

| Mar 5, 2024

Land of Bad is gripping and tense and rousing and just amusing enough to keep from ever turning dour.
