Last Resort Reviews
A superb British filmmaker, Pawlikowski is equally gifted in fiction (like this film, about the plight in bleakest England of a young Russian émigré and her son) and in documentary.

Pawlikowski uses realism to highlight the crushing bureaucracy, dehumanizing conditions, and threats of exploitation that come with being an asylum seeker, but remarkably, bleakness isn’t the overriding tone.

Pawlikowski and his cast have been honoured for this film at festivals across the continent, the greatest award for them would be for you to watch and think.

"Last Resort" does not have the feel of a fictional piece, but instead appears to be unfolding as the events occur.

Writer/director Pawel Pawlikowski strikes a wonderful balance between pathos and tenderness.
