Little Monsters Reviews

It might not be for everyone, and your enjoyment of the film could be judged by how much you like Josh Gad's performance. But for me, this was an absolute trip that I could see myself going on again and again like a lot of other films of its style.

The juxtaposition of cute kids, Miss Caroline’s incessant cheerfulness, and the occasional musical number against the darker aspects doesn’t quite work...

| Original Score: B- | Mar 21, 2024

The child stars are believable and unsaccharine, and young Diesel La Torraca as Dave's nephew Felix is the star of the show.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 12, 2022

Brief moments of smarter, more intricate gags tease a more engaging watch, but one that is lost in the emotionally rote version we're presented with.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 10, 2021

Abe Forsythe's sunny comedy about two people protecting a class of five-year-olds from a zombie outbreak adds more variety to a lively subgenre.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Feb 8, 2021

"Moments of sincerity that push this above other horror comedies"

| Original Score: 4/5 | Nov 27, 2020

A thrilling and heartfelt zombie comedy that deserves to join the ranks of films like Zombieland.

Is it a complete disaster? No, but for what it is worth, Little Monsters should have been better than what we got.

Little Monsters veers closer to a yawn. [Full Review in Spanish]

Little Monsters would not work without Lupita Nyong'o. [Full Review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 3/4 | Aug 28, 2020

It stands as a film that is both wickedly crude and delightfully sweet, satisfyingly gory and surprisingly heartfelt.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 28, 2020

It runs out of fuel and the romance plot is a hard sell, but don't let that stop you from enjoying this snack of a film where the blood looks like strawberry jam. [Full Review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 27, 2020

Oscillating wildly between cute and outrageously potty-mouthed and bloody, it's ghastly good

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 15, 2020

Once again, the actress shows her talent for horror with the hilarious and disturbed Little Monsters. [Full review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 10, 2020

With smart writing, a likable leading lady, and great comic timing, Little Monsters proves that there's still life left in the undead.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Jul 23, 2020

The hilarious Australian horror comedy is a bloody good time, delivering something new to the zombie genre, and with Lupita Nyong'o stealing the show.

| Jul 12, 2020

Whenever Lupita Nyong'o is onscreen, "Little Monsters" is a delight. The problem is all of the other characters.

| Original Score: B- | Jun 26, 2020

A bothersome zombie flick that I just can't shake off.

| Apr 4, 2020

When Nyong'o is the focus the whole film steps up a notch - the scenes where she's protecting her students, either physically or by pretending the zombies are all playing a game, are easily the high point of the film

| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Mar 3, 2020

With any new zombie film there is a pressure to find a new angle and writer-director Abe Forsythe has definitely found it.
