Little Monsters Reviews
Brief moments of smarter, more intricate gags tease a more engaging watch, but one that is lost in the emotionally rote version we're presented with.

What a jagged little gem.

The problem with the film for me is... beyond that joke, about yeah the attack is happening in a petting zoo, there really isn't that much to entertain.

This is well-worked territory for horror and horror-comedy, but Forsythe makes it work.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 15, 2019
The trick of a zombie gross-out comedy is to balance extreme splatter, suspense and broad-strokes satire with a sweet nature and whimsy to take the edge off potential misanthropy. It's not an easy mix, but Little Monsters works like a charm.

Miss Caroline makes for a kickass heroine & really ought to be the protagonist. Sadly, this is all about Dave, with the other characters, not to mention the armies of walking dead, feeling like mere foils to our main man's arc from kidult to carer.

the reason to see this is [Lupita] Nyong'o. A kind of zombie-killing version of Julie Andrews in a sunny yellow dress, the US star proves you can defeat anything with a positive attitude and some 'Tay Tay on your uke-y'

At heart, Little Monsters has a lot of heart.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Nov 11, 2019
Is this Bergman? Fellini? George Romero? No, but it's alarmingly fun (and profane, and gory) and Ms. Nyong'o is a delight.
| Oct 11, 2019
Forsythe nails a handful of funny juxtapositions, but too often leans into mean-spirited and tired yuks.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Oct 10, 2019
The charismatic Nyong'o is easily the best part of this feeble Australian horror comedy...
| Oct 10, 2019
Just when this movie seems like a total write-off though, Lupita Nyong'o shows up, playing a preternaturally cheerful, zombie-fighting kindergarten teacher. And all's well.

The stakes are never really life or death, even when they are, but writer-director Abe Forsythe has clearly taken his lessons from Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, and other flesh-rotting comedy jewels of the genre.
| Original Score: B | Oct 8, 2019
Forsythe does an excellent job of balancing the various energies of his cast.

Its self-amusement is far more obvious than it is infectious.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Oct 8, 2019
The film is a hoot, and boasts unexpectedly rich character work...
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 8, 2019
Prepare to be seduced, appalled and humored by this eccentric horror movie. Get awed by an accomplished actress who shines bright like a diamond on a battlefield of human-munching monsters.

Abe Forsythe's sophomore feature Little Monsters is a gift.

Cinematically speaking, zombies have been done to death, but in this new comedy from Australian writer-director Abe Forsythe the gag is precisely how far the trope can be taken for granted.

Little Monsters is a wild ride, a twisted crowd-pleaser, and a total blast.
