Mandy Reviews

Cage is utterly in his element.

| Aug 5, 2022

I didn't much care for the film, but I can see how it might appeal to gorehounds and fans of genre cinema.

| Mar 4, 2020

Beautifully-shot film, although sometimes the use of processed grain and lens flares were distracting. The second half was exactly what I wanted, but the first half is a bit slow.

| Original Score: B | Nov 20, 2018

Hyperstylised and ultraviolent, Mandy is an amped-up theological trip into pulp's purest quintessence

| Oct 17, 2018

It's bloody, it's nasty, and it burns.

| Oct 15, 2018

Naughty but niche.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 15, 2018

As an audiovisual experience, it's certainly entertaining, and perhaps even destined for cult success, but I'm not sure its metalhead aesthetic services much more than mood.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 13, 2018

It's a gore movie but its a bit kaleidoscopic.

| Oct 12, 2018

This is very much a 2018 film, with all our era's horrors and inadequacies and injustice exposed, writ large and remedied only by a retreat into fantasy.

| Original Score: 5/5 | Oct 12, 2018

Needless to say, Cage is utterly in his element.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 12, 2018

Fans of [Cage's] work will relish his extravagantly oddball performance as a dark avenger in this luridly overwrought horror movie.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 11, 2018

Nicolas Cage going postal on screen is now so passé it's become an internet meme but the actor has finally met his match with Mandy, a grindhouse movie even more bat-poop bananas than he is.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 10, 2018

There really are some extraordinary scenes.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 10, 2018

Dreamy, destructive, unfailingly compelling.

| Original Score: 5/5 | Oct 10, 2018

A no-holds-barred ride into madness destined for a thousand midnight screenings.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 8, 2018

Cosmatos' metal-to-the-max revenge thriller is more than just the sum of its deranged set pieces, choice as they are: Its slow-drip blend of hardcore pulp and demonic fantasy has a patience and all-consuming conviction that simply cannot be faked.

| Oct 5, 2018

Canadian director [Panos] Cosmatos doesn't just push the boat out in Mandy, he mobilizes the whole fleet, on a brutally aggressive war footing.

Either you are one of the devoted or you're not. You won't know what camp you're in until you see it.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 20, 2018

This is an aggressive and violent movie yet it is also one that unabashedly wears its heart on its Black Sabbath t-shirt-wearing sleeve.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 19, 2018

The movie's imagery is consistently unearthly; its pacing has a magisterial weight. Call it pulp Tarkovsky, maybe.
