Marlowe Reviews
It was a rather complex plot so pay attention!
Marlowe movie was slow moving & not very interesting. Just not a very good movie. I give it a 3 stars. Expected more from Liam Neison but guess he's getting older & can't do the all out action movies anymore. Too bad, he's a top notch actor & one of my favorites
Damn. Read all Raymond Chandlers novels and love the Phillip Marlowe character and was looking forward to this movie. Big disappointment. Instead of using one of those stories they used a novel from another writer who wrote a Phillip Marlowe story trying to emulate Mr. Chandler. It doesnt work. Just like this movie didnt work. The pieces were there but the film is dry and doesnt even have that P.I. feel to it. Shame. Not a bad film just a disappointment as theres seven novels with this character from the original writer out there that they just didnt use. And even without that, the film itself is missing something.
This is a perfect example of putting big name actors in a movie then disrespecting them with a stilted script, poor directing and even poorer production leaving segue scenes on the floor. I dont know why Liam allowed himself to be put in such a poor picture. Everyone over 50 likes the timeless character Marlowe and I expected more. Too bad. Had such promise.
This was not your typical Liam Neesom movie with fast tough guy stuff. However it was a carefully crafted era movie and Neesom was terrific. Until the end I did not know how or who Was the perpetrator . Loved the movie
Horrible dialog, storyline and acting. Expected more from a Liam Neeson movie.
Story a lil choppy. Support Character a lil weak
Sound was not very good so it was difficult to follow the plot
As much as I wanted to like this movie -- I'm a big Raymond Chandler fan -- it just didin't cut it. I didn't think Neeson fit the role and he doesn't have the timing to pull off the snappy chatter that so identifies Chandler both on the page and on the screen. It was good to see Jessica Lange, though. Overall, the plot was iffy, the scenery was definitely not Los Angeles, and my movie partner actually dozed off. A first.
The Los Angeles atmosphere was well done and the cars were spot on. Jessica Lange and Diane Krueger were pitch=perfect in their clothing. The story line kept me interested and the mermaid was a nice touch. I have to admit, however, that Dick Powell will always be the quintessential Marlowe, and Liam Neeson was a tad too old to play this role—the references too WWI notwithstanding..
Typical "film noir" movie with slow plot, dark visuals and little action. Otherwise, good acting by the headliner stars.
Too slowcouldnt really get into it
Good acting and time period is always fun
Well paced and understandable plot line.
Completely boring. Painfully sat through it hoping it would get better. Never did. Disappointing to say the least. Was very glad when it finally ended.
Too much jumping around - hard to follow.
