Men Reviews
I kind of understood the symbolism and message and while it isn't flawed or incorrect in any way it was pushed to the point of almost humorous. Like the ending was unintentionally funny with the giant impact font MEN flashed at the end of the typical garbage boyfriend behavior trope. The cinematography was pretty great though and the audio team was straight up COOKIN the entire movie so I can't call it flawed when Garland did have good talents working on a movie which he kind of inserted a message into but failed a little on the delivery. I'd say this is a female horror movie though, one men can also enjoy albeit somewhat half humored.
Men will hate this film. I loved it.
Started out with slow pacing, preparing an interesting outline which makes you curious about what will happen. Acting and direction are good. But when the story continues in the 2nd half it becomes more gore, over the top and incomprehensible, without explaining what really happened, leaving the viewer behind with an unsatisfied feeling.
Well, I don't know. On the one hand, I think Men is really well crafted and the story is well told... but on the other hand, this very story suffers from the not very subtle message of toxic masculinity and the clumsy attempt to incorporate it in a folkloristic way. Unfortunately, this wastes a lot of potential.
this movie makes me furious. it's a shallow, feeble attempt at "men bad! we empathize with you!" it's just an abused woman being tortured and thrown into worse situations for sick kicks.
It seems like a good idea and has decent performances, but it fails to convey the director’s intended vision.
Interesting concept but incredibly ham-fisted with its symbolism to the point of comedy.
Amazing cinematography, stunning and perturbing actings, unnerving mood. We could discuss of the accomplishment or not of the topic management. An important message. For some, in a very primary way. For others, out of grasp or understanding… But a great movie for me.
Someone, please, stop Alex Garland.
This was literally one of the slowest movies I have ever seen in all of my life. It was more of a subtle and symbolic slow burn. It was disgusting as far as literally vividly disgusting at parts. With a very dissatisfying ending.
A gender swapped The Shining for the 21th century. The mood, and eerie locations, make for a great setup, that unfortunately doesn't deliver. If the film would have treated the script more as a drama, and toned down the CGI, it would have been definitively better.
I loved it. I’m glad I read the reviews on here first. When I learned how much symbolism is in it, I didn’t take many scenes literally.
This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen! The only reason I gave it half a star is for the beautiful scenery.
So bad. It's like a radical femenists victim hood nightmare. The movies got one theme: Women are victims and so innocent just trying to live life going from being a victim of one man to the next. Every man is the same and they are all bad. Not worth watching or getting upset over. We see this victim by proxy nonsense in every aspect of media lately. The main character is so brave and strong while continuously playing victim and crying. It's pathetic. Everything about it is just garbage.
3deep5 me slow boring crap. There is nothing of value in this flick. Some good shots here and there. Then it starts getting nonsensical, absolutely no basis. Being weird for the sake of it. The ending was grotesque for the sake of being grotesque. It's like watching youtube poop videos that pretend to be scary. Don't watch it, wasted time.
Men brings Alex Garland's creative and uncanny mind to full display. The film's carefully chosen locations, combined with exceptional sound design and Garland's impeccable directing, create an atmosphere that is both immersive and deeply unsettling. Jessie Buckley delivers an amazing performance in the lead role, beautifully conveying a sense of amiss. Rory Kinnear captivates audiences with his flawless portrayal of a complex and deeply disturbing character. The story itself is where the film shines, presenting significant themes rooted within, yet ultimately vanishes in it's intricacies. While rich in complexity, it may become overwhelming for mainstream viewers. The various subplots, along with their mythical, metaphorical, and religious elements, could prove confusing to a broader audience. However, a more cerebral type of audience, they'll find much joy in this story. A story which ultimately represents the cycle of toxic behavior throughout generations, and the break of said cycle.
This was a man's desperate attempt to make a loud statement about men but virtually said nothing impactful at all. Millions of dollars were spent on this... If only it had been invested in US healthcare to address the DESPERATE needs in the mental health realm, specifically for men or women traumatized by men, or could have been used to help women in domestic violence situations. Instead money went to a man to fulfill his creative needs to film men giving birth to full grown men... It wasn't provocative it was a waste. A waste of time, money, and a waste of all of the power these creatives hold. Horrifying misuse of creative power...I assume that's why it was labeled a horror film.
