Missing Link Reviews
Missing Link is fun, exciting, and beautiful to behold.

Humongous scope alongside mesmerising sets, and a stylish harnessing of good old fashioned stop motion techniques allows us to feel the vastness of Butler’s ambitions and the enormity of the story.

There is a reason I have a huge place in my heart for stop-motion animation as a medium. It could be the painstakingly crafted claymation, the heartwarming stories perfect for any demographic, the stellar voice casts, or all of that coming together...

[A] genius stop-motion animation.

Enjoyable for kids who haven't been beaten to death by the same old, same old, but for everyone else, there's a predictability to each scene.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Mar 11, 2021
Missing Link is beautiful to look at, something for which Laika should be rightfully proud. It's just a shame that the story attached to it doesn't live up that standard.

It's a sweet, modest, diversion, and a delight for the eyes, and maybe that's enough.

An engaging, entertaining motion picture rich with positive universal themes and life lessons.
| Original Score: 3.0/4.0 | Sep 17, 2020
Hugh Jackman and Zach Galifianakis lead this bizarre stop-motion animation that oddly feels emotionally soulless.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Sep 3, 2020
It is interesting when it deals with issues such as intolerance, exclusion, prejudice and the value of friendship. It is a very entertaining animated adventure. [Full review in Spanish]

There are grownup delights aplenty...from its glorious color palate to the refreshingly angular character design
| Original Score: 4/5 | Jul 29, 2020
The sound design is synesthetic, the textures are top-notch, and . . . the shot composition anticipates eye movement with an almost hypnotic grace.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Jul 27, 2020
When you remember that this has all been made by hand using little more than plasticine and manual labour, you will be left spellbound, reeling from what the team behind this movie are capable of.
| Original Score: 4 / 5 | Jul 27, 2020
Although Missing Link seems more aimed at a younger audience than other Laika productions, it still finds fun ways to be subversive and adult friendly as well.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jul 21, 2020
Missing Link is another triumph in beautiful stop-motion animation, with a lovely, funny and touching tale of finding friendship. Yet, I can't help feeling it's not quite up to the standards set by its predecessors.

Missing Link, a film that does work, but in a very middle ground fare way.

Even minor Laika is good.
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Mar 9, 2020
The film is sophisticated in its revisionist take on the adventure genre, introducing social and ecological concerns into the mix, though its irreverent humor is still accessible to children.

This movie has the distinctive Laika style, but the characters are not as ugly as previous Laika characters in ParaNorman, or The Boxtrolls. It is funny and easy-going. There is a moral to the story, which comes to a satisfactory conclusion.
| Original Score: B | Dec 7, 2019
If only the other elements of Missing Link were as strong as the visuals, we'd have a masterpiece on our hands.
