Moon Reviews
Not good as a whole. Set design is good, Sam Rockwell is good, story idea is fine. Just dull and not interesting in execution with almost no logic in anything. Unless you're a completist and just have to watch every Sam Rockwell movie, skip it. Normally I would give this two or three stars, but I felt I needed to go lower just to pointlessly try and offset all of the ridiculous 5-star ratings.
This is a clever film and Sam Rockwell is great. There are too many holes in it to get that extra star and I don't think I'll want to watch it over and over again, but good stuff nonetheless. Don't watch it late at night when you're half asleep - you would be in real danger of losing track of who was who. I think that's intentional though.
Didn't really know much about this film going in, all i knew was, it's a film with Sam Rockwell on the Moon which I was sold on immediately, however I came out the other end having watched a surprisingly sad and heartwarming story. Sam Rockwell gives what might be one of my favourite performances from his great catalogue of characters and i would encourage anyone interested in the film to go in with little knowledge on the films plot.
This was a really engaging little drama, very simple but effective and everything they tried worked. Yeah it's good.
It was... okay. Without spoilers, the movie is mostly a solo acting performance by Sam Rockwell. I think the starting premise works well enough to establish the setting and themes. Sam's character... Sam is working solo on an He3 harvesting station on the moon. The only companionship he has is a non-humanoid robot that is part of the base and some occasional videos from his wife and daughter that are back on Earth. Problems ensue and then accidents and then a twist! From that moment forward, to me, the tension fell mostly flat. The acting was fine and the conclusion was not the standard cookie cutter hollywood ending. So there is that at least. The set on the base had some good character and the moon surface shots were very nice to look at in a doing a lot with a little sense.
Its concept is better than its execution. Somewhere between 2001 and The Martian with, interestingly enough, a little bit of Mickey 17, but without the depth or care of any of these films. It begs a lot of questions that feel suspiciously close to plot holes. And most of the twists can be seen from miles away. That said, it has some gorgeous sets and props and Sam Rockwell does a fine job as the lead. It’s just held back by poor forethought and some wonky special effects.
Aww, one of my fav's. I own it and paid for it. Awesome movie. Rockwell is a personal favorite of mine. Great Story. Makes a person wonder what it means to be human and what it means to live. I only give 5 to a small amount of movies- this is one. A Must Have for Any Collection.
Moon is one of my favourite movies ever, and not just in the sci-fi genre. The story is intriguing, Sam Rockwell absolutely rocks (pun intended), the visuals are great and it also deals with a few ethical problems in the scientific realm. Absolute must see. Do yourself a favour and don't skip this one. Ignore the slow pace and trust me, you will be rewarded.
This movie needed more suspense. I feel like if it was a Sci-Fi/Thriller, it would have been much better than just a Sci-Fi. Additionally, the characters accepted stuff way too easily. There's a clone of me walking around? Well whatever, might as well go on about my day.
This was recommended as one of "13 Vastly Underrated Sci-Fi Movies!" by Flick Connections on YouTube. As of writing this review, Moon has a 90% tomatometer and 89% popcornmeter, so I don't know about it being "vastly" underrated, but I certainly hadn't heard about it prior to Flick Connections' recommendation, despite frequently searching for good SciFi movies here. Moon is definitely not an action packed flick, but it is a really good, slow-burn, dystopian scifi mystery movie, with a thought provoking philosophical situation at its core. Sam Rockwell is simply superb! Kevin Spacey has always creeped me out, even more so after allegations of sexual misconduct, and that creep out factor works really well in this movie. The set, sound, lighting, costumes, & props are all top notch and work great for the story. While this won't be a movie that I watch over and over again, it's an easy to digest movie that I definitely recommend for any intellectual sci-fi fans and one which I'll probably watch at least once more.
A beautiful movie. Definitely a must-see.
Lonely, bleak, dusty, empty... But ultimately makes you feel human. Great acting by Sam Rockwell.
This movie hits me like a train, each time i watch it. May not be for everyone, but for the ethical dillema alone it is worth watching. Sam Rockwell became my top 3 actors in the span of 90-or-so minutes. “That’s enough. I wanna go home”
It does not make any sense. As an aeronautics and aerospace engineer I know how these type of engineering projects work, and none of what happens in this movie is realistic. But I don't think you need an engineering title to see how there is no logic to what happens in this movie.
Very existential movie! Great acting by Rockwell, great effects!
This movie helps highlight just what an underrated actor Sam Rockwell is, and in 2024 i still recommend this film to anyone i am talking to about movies for the the first time.
Solid Sci-Fi in an era where few make the grade. Sam Rockwell should have gotten the Oscar for this. I think they gave him the "sorry-we-missed-that" Oscar years later for Three Billboards instead. Better late than never.
The only thing this movie has got going for it is the slightly original storyline. As others have said it's low budget but I think it would have been better to be really low budget and focus on atmosphere and narrative more. As it is the use of a couple of big names means it doesn't know where it stands and the sets and acting are just naff.
The spiritual and intellectual successor to 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is a touching and meaningful movie with a terrific performance by Sam Rockwell.
Good movie! good writing, makes you feel as alone in the moon as the protagonist
