It is sloooow. Pay close attention, the plot is complicated, and somewhat strange.

One of the best films of the last few decades. The music is impressive.

I've always admired Norton for his deep immersion into every character he plays. Motherless is such a stunning achievement, what great movie making is all about--a compelling story, honest dialogue, visceral cinematography, terrific individual and ensemble acting, editing, music and production values. So many marvelous directorial moments, authentic 50s noir and fabulous jazz. All this and Norton's marvelous acting, echoed by Dafoe, Baldwin, Carnavale et al. The only flaw? Too many vintage 60s cars that didnt make sense with late 40s and 50s classics.

disappointg effort from Norton, too much resembling 'Chinatown', no Bruce Willis, that was only a marketing hook, for he's in the movie for first 5 mins, pacing issue and overlong....vanity affair!

I remembered this film getting very mixed reviews, but having finally gotten around to seeing it, I thought it was quite good. Not as good as the book, of course, but they never are, are they?

This long but terrific movie is semi-historical. The villain is based on a real man who Ed Norton's grandfather actually worked against. Norton wrote the screen play, directed, produced & starred.

Probably a little too long but I appreciate that Norton made his main villain a lightly fictionalized Robert Moses and had the good sense to cast Alec Baldwin in the role.

a plotless Brooklyn.

The film's title came across my browsing numerous times but "Motherless Brooklyn" just didn't get my attention. I thought maybe it was something about a family or a child so I gave it a pass. (I am a curmudgeon after all.) However, what a treat. It is the kind of movie that reminds me good movies are still being made. It is possibly more convoluted than I care for but it held my attention. I really wanted to see where the story was going. Edward Norton just seems to know the grounding basics of the film business better than many other directors and actors that are household names.

Thought-provoking look at city politics and impeccably directed.

In the vain of "Chinatown" and "L.A. Confidential" this P.I. mystery is an enjoyable watch even though at times it is a bit middling and it is a bit bloated. Norton's performance is central to this movie and he does a great job as the lead Lionel.

I enjoyed this one as it was an exciting story that keeps you engaged to see what will happen next along with Super Star cast. I thought Norton did a great job being on both sides of the camera to make this one worth it.

Amazing film.I don't understand why score is so low..I enjoyed every minut of it. Plot is engaging, well made and great performances.

Brand new neon lit hospital signs, the old New York streets filled with automobiles of the time and the sparkling, delicate and unbroken tiles of the swimming pool seductively swept me into Moses' era, tacitly testifying to the enduring, beautiful legacy of his work and the work of those like him. Then, like a tulip's slow striptease, the narrative unfolds and folds in cogent tempos, revealing the very human, very deluded and dark motivations that concurrently left a legacy of poverty and problems. Norton's loving portrayal of Tourette's came through both his performance, and, between the performances of the ensemble. Never once did his ticks bother me, but instead served to endear, as well as provide plot device and psychological unveiling. Motherless Brooklyn is a fine film and a great watch and doesn't tire out film noir, detective or expose standards. In fact, I'll probably venture to watch it again soon!

Motherless Brooklyn is a decent film. It is about a lonely private detective who ventures to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend in 1950s New York. Edward Norton and Bruce Willis give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Edward Norton also did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama and mystery.

Story of Robert Moses and his mowing down of the minority neighborhoods. Excellent screenplay, E. Norton. Also his acting and everyone in the film, is outstanding. His playing someone with Tourette's is well done and difficult to do. Does not detract from the story but does not add anything either, except for his constant apologies for it and some humor.

I liked the look and feel of this film (it has an authentic old fashioned 'gumshoe' film type feel). It's quite immersive/atmospheric and while its not action packed (certainly for the most part, except towards the end), the plot is good and I enjoyed watching it throughout. I was particularly keen on the music (mostly jazz and some light piano pieces - it has quite a laid back feel to it via the music). I also liked the cinematography and I thought the cast gave decent performances (particularly Edward Norton), so I'd recommend this film, yes. It's a long watch but its worth it.
