Mr. Holmes Reviews
Perfect movie. I cried in the last 20min. If this is hated by someone then that person does not enjoy classy classical storytelling. Ian is so amazing as Sherlock, he portrays a lonely man that struggles with relationships while being the best at his career. As Sherlock begins to form a grandfather bond child his regrets and few mistakes in life seem to become more redeemable as he comes into his last stages of life. If you are okay with waiting 10mins before the story becomes really interesting you’ll find it was worth the wait. I can’t rave enough about this movie. Clean enough to watch with children is always a plus. I Loved it!
A sweet story concerning regret and the attempt to make something right before it is too late in life. It's never too late to learn and apply the lessons life has handed us over the years.
Best story I’ve seen in a very long time. Ian McKellen & Laura Linney were so beautiful in it. Great acting all around. Thank you-
O background ficou raso, merecia mais um orçamento e uma investida na história. Estamos falando de "holmes" o impecável "holmes", não um personagem qualquer.
Loved it! Touching story. Well acted in a simple classic British style, where less is more.
Watch how this legendary detective graces our screens again, so long into his retirement! Mr. Holmes spends his days caring for bees and hanging out with his housekeeper's son as he tries to remember his final case as his memory slowly begins to give out. An introspective journey into the mind of one of media's greatest crime-solver, this film is both a satisfying conclusion and an emotional journey!
A soft-spoken but eloquent turn for the famous penny dreadful detective of Baker Street. Bill Condon grounds the adventuring super sleuth in the quiet and mundane story of a brilliant man losing his mental faculties to age. Sequestered to a cozy cottage in the countryside, a retired and senile Sherlock Holmes struggles to recollect his last case with the help of his housekeeper’s young son. Sir Ian McKellen is simply sublime in a role that has been played by countless others. He perfectly embodies the cold, taut brilliance of Holmes but marries it with the tender vulnerability of a man slowly crossing into the final days of his life while losing his grasp on his most precious resource: his mind. Elegantly directed with a tight, flowing script that effortlessly weaves together story threads, Mr. Holmes is captivating and soothing in its contemplative sense of calm. One of the finer renditions of the mythic hero detective I’ve yet seen.
The acting is excellent. I love an English period piece. A story of loss of oneself and of loved ones. Life's full circle. I am not sure a movie for everyone but I found it excellent.
Great story line and casting wish they made more movies like this with some truly great actors like this movie has...
A late day Holmes film could work but needed a compelling mystery and to not be so damn depressing.
An excellent unique depressing take on the last case of Sherlock Holmes.
Not a big BBC fan - so this was super slow and a little sleepy for me. McKellen is a brilliant Sherlock...but I didn't have the patience for the pace today.
Exceptionally dull...
Excellent film! Ian McKellan was of course superb as always, and Laura Linney and Milo Parker were great as well. I liked the sensitive tone it took in the exploration of such a well known character, in which it went much deeper than other adaptations I've seen.
What was the point in making this film? Its not much fun watching Mr Holmes struggle with his memory, the details he is trying to remember contains nothing of much interest and the modern timeline is pretty dull as well. Ian McKellen is great, but this story is lacking.
A delightful movie This drama is a very British film but it's a heartwarming and interesting take on a legendary icon of literature and cinema
This film is very particular and very full of feeling and drama, it is not objectively a film about Holmes because it does not have all the characteristics, but it is a film about an old man who tells the last story of the true Holmes out of the myth and further into the turmoil and lapsychology of an aging man
This is the slow form of holmes i have seen, though it captivates it differently. Holmes loosing his memory with age, needs to solve one case which he left unsolved.its a slow burn movie.gudteam effort
