Nightmare Alley Reviews
Nice, but I think it's too big. Maybe it could use some corrections.
Took me a couple of days to complete watching it, found it quite boring and deplorable end in my opinion
Drawn out. No high point. No build up of real excitement. Overall a pretty flat movie despite nice cinematography and great cast.
This remake does not live up to the reputation of the old one at all. It's simply bad writing. There are a lot of scenes in it just to fill in and does not improve the story or gives more information about a character. It has no respect for the audience, storytelling is didactic. It tries to explain everything rather than leaving it to the audience to figure out. Please compare this to the 1947version, where Tyron Power stars as 'Stan' and you will see what I mean.
This was a horrible movie. Way too long, very boring. I kept watching it because I thought the movie would redeem itself. It didn't. It was awful.
Nightmare Alley è un thriller noir visivamente straordinario, diretto da Guillermo del Toro. Con un cast eccellente e una regia impeccabile, il film racconta una storia avvincente di ambizione e inganno. Un capolavoro ipnotico e indimenticabile.
I loved the styling of the film, a great story although I didn't like the ending although it made sense. Top notch film.
Should be a rise and fall noir with Cooper doing a good job. But at half an hour too long it meanders too much into quite interesting but barely relevant to main story side stops and loses momentum. Still good for 1940s ambience, visuals and Cooper, but.
It’s BORING! Has a great cast indulging in a long boring story, don’t bother wasting your time watching!
"Nightmare Alley" is a stylish and brooding neo-noir that evokes a sense of déjà vu, with impressive performances by Bradley Cooper as a morally ambiguous drifter and Cate Blanchett as a hypnotic femme fatale. Despite its familiar carnival setting and rise-and-fall narrative, the film feels more like a tribute to classic noir than an innovative take. Guillermo del Toro's direction offers a visual feast, but the emotional core feels hollow, reflecting Hollywood's creative rut and obsession with nostalgia. Although enjoyable in the moment, "Nightmare Alley" may not leave a lasting impression.
A great dark thriller beautifully photographed and textured and well directed and performed. A tale of deceit and greed told through the rise and fall of a carny grifter set in 1940's era.
Wonderful. Brilliantly directed. A sophisticated journey to the decades of the '30s and '40s. The tension that announces to the viewer that something unexpected is going to happen is very well achieved. An atmosphere worthy of a dark thriller with a finishing touch to match.
Theres been few great new movies avaiable nowadays, this is one of then
Del Toros style is on display once again, a great cast, solid story, but can not encapsulate the brilliance of Pans Labyrinth or Crimson Peak, it's a good movie regardless.
One of the best remakes ever made.
Watched it back to back with the 1947 version. Loved the overall noir feel and superb production design, but preferred the ending of the older version and the "ghost" scene was more sensitively handled. The cast was excellent, except for Bradley Cooper who, for me, did not have the screen presence or range to be convincing as the lead character. Tyrone Power was much better cast. I was impressed with Cate Blanchett's take on the original Helen Walker role but there was something about those '40s femme fatales, and Helen Walker was one of the very best. A good Del Toro movie, though some of the violence was a bit contrived and unnecessary. I liked it, but I love the 1947 version!
Why the hate? One of the best films of recent years. The pacing never felt slow to me. The setting, costumes, acting, screenplay, everything was outstanding. If it’s about karma, I’ve done something halfway decent to have the pleasure to watch this neo noir. Watched on DVD.
Another pointless movie the critics love I swear they must be getting paid off for their opinion. The only part of this movie that I really like was Kate Blanchett. The rest of the story I found really uninteresting.
Awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guillermo del Toro’s thrilling film is a slow burn that pivots sharply in the second act. The film follows an aspiring “mentalist” that learns his trade in the 1940’s carnival circuit. His overconfidence in his skills takes him down a self-destructive path that has you shouting at the screen. The film is tense and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The costume and set designs are absolutely brilliant. My only complaint is that the film deserved a better ending than the predictable ending we got.
