Nightmare Alley Reviews
This was amazing seeing the black and white version of the film.
moody film noir by Del Toro
one of the most incredible films I've ever seen and it looks even more stunning in black and white. This film noir centers around a drifter who joins a carnival in the late 1930s and learns the tricks of mentalism. His ambitions takes him to the big city where he meets a mysterious and beautiful psychiatrist who has a scheme to swindle some wealthy bigwigs. Things get dark as his web of lies comes crumbling down. Nightmare Alley has incredible performances across the board particularly by Blanchett, Cooper, and Jenkins, witty dialogue, stunning cinematography, and eye popping sets. I don't want to spoil anything but this is a compelling adult film that takes place in the past but also says a lot about the times we live in.
Well crafted and well-performed, Nightmare Alley is a solid psychological thriller. The overlong runtime does make the plot seem more complex that it is, but beyond that, the cinematography is fantastic, and the production design is visually astounding. Cooper and Collette were astonishing, and Cate Blanchett stole the show.
Great mystery and thriller. 10/10
Amazing set direction and story. A little long. Go for the set direction, stay for the ending.
Great movie what goes around comes around
Intriguing in the beginning, a bit slow in the middle, but builds to great ending.
I was captivated. What a stunning cast! And I would recommend not missing it. But I was restless. Talk about a glacial pace. But with twists and turns and allure. I loved the back alley circus the depths of dark. An emotional roller coaster of a story. But I liked it. Seeds for soap opera segments. Wow! What a cliffhanger almost sometimes. But with closure. Compelling. But frustrating too. Go, I guess. Blanchett riveting. Cooper captivating. Compellingly star-studded. Complex. Go!
Wowww Brilliant director & phenomenal perfect cast.
By far the best film I have seen all year! Script is great, direction is amazing, cast is outstanding and the scenery and costumes are extraordinary! It's a long film, but I was so mesmerized, I didn't notice. See it on a big screen because it is a visual masterpiece!
Nightmare Alley is not for the faint of heart. It's as dark as hell, yet it's unravelling in the most inventive of ways, with del Toro using all of his masterful instruments. Del Toro's preoccupation with the macabre, human sorrow and violence fits him well in both the carnival and art deco cityscape realms. If you like Del Toro, you will not be disappointed. The cast had many famous faces, but the concept was frightening. My favourite movie of the year!
MASTERPIECE, OOF! I legit never heard of the book and was just looking for a movie to watch over the weekend for a date and I’m glad I came across it. Top 10 favorite movies, of all time. And that ending! Amazing👌
It was great. I was surprised it was in black and white
quit spamming me to rate movies after you charge me convenience fees for what is also convenient for the movie theater to save money and not employ humans
One of the best performances by Bradley Cooper. The movie ties in everything full circle and will leave you in disbelief.
Not enough information about why he was crazy. Also there should have been more scenes of the psychologist analyzing him. The plot twist wasnt strong enough to make a big impact as we didnt have enough knowledge on why he hated his father so much to justify the killings.
Lots of good familiar actors, but the story was creepy.
Good movie even though it started slow but made up in the ending. He’s now a geek!
Overall pretty good, but not one I would bother to watch again. Some movies I can't wait to see again.
