Pee-wee's Big Holiday Reviews
An appreciation of Reubens's kitsch-loving schtick is an advantage but not essential as there are some big laughs to be had along Pee-wee's journey, not least a comedy masterclass in the art of balloon deflation.

A better Pee-Wee sequel than Big Top, this film taps into the absurdity and child-like charm from Big Adventure.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Aug 25, 2023
It's just fun, whimsical, silly and delightful.

Sometimes seeing that something or someone you loved as a kid has stayed the same after all these years is comforting. But this film wears out its welcome fast.

By its nature, this latest Pee-wee film retreads some of the same material, though in the most respectful way. That said, it does the best possible job rekindling the spirit that made Pee-wee's Big Adventure a timeless delight.
| Original Score: 3/4 | May 31, 2016
I laughed long and hard at Pee-wee's corny puns and throwback sensibilities, a satirical reflection of times when innuendo wasn't always intentional, but was all the funnier for it.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Apr 11, 2016
We should've had a new Pee-wee movie years ago; this one's a tad uneven, but all in all, it'll do.

Manages to get the most important thing right: Pee-Wee's childishly anarchic delight in all things silly and stupid
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Apr 2, 2016
Has its share of absurd laughs, but it never reaches the delirious heights of whimsy that it so clearly aims for.

The adventure which ensues has as much nuttiness as you would expect, even if it lacks the innovative governing vision that Burton brought to the original.

Those expecting another "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" are sure to be disappointed with this effort, as Reubens and co-writer Paul Rust dial down idiosyncrasy, keeping "Pee-wee's Big Holiday" friendly, but rarely surprising.
| Original Score: B- | Mar 23, 2016
Reubens and company have carefully crafted 99 minutes of kooky new material that will make you feel like a kid again.

Zany, kid-friendly adventure welcomes old fans and new ones.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 22, 2016
Pee-wee's still Pee-wee - thank God!
| Original Score: 8/10 | Mar 19, 2016
A disappointing rehash of Pee-wee's 1985 film debut. Netflix subscribers may find it skim-worthy.

Nirvana for Pee-wee fans ...
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 19, 2016
I enjoyed the mix of nostalgia, surrealism, and genuine nuts storytelling that Reubens and director Lee provide long time fans.

Pee-wee and Reubens remain cute, but never cutesy; the artist and his creation are pure products of American culture, unique treasures mixing innocence and knowingness in just the right amounts.

Paul Reubens is back as Pee-wee Herman in Pee-wee's Big Holiday, a Netflix original film that is true to the spirit of his famous man-child -- it's funny, corny and occasionally creepy.
| Original Score: B | Mar 18, 2016
A bright, colorful, illogical ride full of huge laughs.
