Pompeii Reviews

Apr 13, 2025

Tem ação, tem desastre, tem gladiador… mas falta alma. Os efeitos são legais e a destruição final é divertida de assistir, só que o enredo é bem genérico e os personagens não empolgam muito. No fim das contas, dá pra ver sem grandes expectativas.

A hour and 40 mins, and no story was told, the lack of emotional connection to the characters is just the tip of the iceberg with how bad this film is, not to mention (minus a few actors) the litter of awful actors Kit Harington being the worst of the lot.

Bad script, storyline, and video game CGI. The movie should have been about the horrific and devastating volcanic eruption, not a Roman soap opera. Was it really necessary to add a sunami to this terrible event? Kiefer Sutherland only interesting character, but there was no one to root for. I wanted this film to be better. But it was not.

Absolutely horrendous. Barely ANY factual content about the eruption and destruction of Pompeii. Pfffttt....what a true waste of time.

🍀 3.5/10 Gladiator but shitty, oh but did we tell you there was a volcano as well. Cool glossy state of the art visuals effects aren’t enough, for this utterly uninteresting, underdeveloped, movie. that even my man Paul W.S Anderson doesn’t even manage to make it fun like he’s previous work (Well ok I guess it is a tragedy based on real events so erm yeah). Still that last shot was actually pretty Great.

This disaster epic is a lot better than it is being rated. The visuals were spectacular.

Paul W.S. Anderson takes a break from pissing off Resident Evil fans to piss off historians instead with Pompeii, a movie that really only stands out because of the genre mashup of disaster film and historical fiction. Naturally, the part where Mount Vesuvius erupts is the best moment of the film with terrific, if not on the same level as Roland Emmerich's 2012, special effects. But before that, you have to deal with boring arena fights that just scream "We have Gladiator at home", a clichéd story that seems to be emulating Titanic when it comes to love, uninteresting characters with Kit Harington only being there to get female Game of Thrones fans' butts in seats & Kiefer Sutherland being the only one to deliver a memorable performance thanks to his odd accent to remain consistent with the rest of the cast and an ending that felt like it made any investment we did have in the heroes pointless. Remember, our main characters are fictitious so you can't really make any arguments about it being a foregone conclusion. After the okay, if somewhat weird, film adaptation of The Three Musketeers from 2011, Paul W.S. Anderson's next period piece film is a dull, clichéd film that only picks up steam in more ways than one at the climax whilst the rest of the film prior to that can best be described as at its core, doing nothing more than beating around the bush. At least this film has coherent editing unlike the following Resident Evil film. Now THAT was a massive letdown, even for people who unironically like those movies.

It was successful...in showing even when then they rip off a successful plot (Gladiator), writing, directing, and acting still make a difference. Even the costumes and music couldn't be replaced with cheap CGI.

Freakin decent. Stayed awake the whole time!

Good special effects if you enjoy disaster flicks. The plot has nothing to do with what really happened in 79AD, but if can suspend belief it's an ok film.

Movie should of stuck with one theme instead of trying to be two at once

I liked the CGI and it kinda reminded of "Gladiator" for some reason...hmmmm kinda suspicious...

I loved this movie all the way until the end. It was like they ran out of time and hurried to end it, tying a bunch of loose ends up quickly. The ending was disappointing, too.

An overly hated movie that actually had a decent story with decent acting and decent action. A very enjoyable medieval film.

This movie was a treat, seeing the epic fights in the coliseum and the dialogue between characters was splendid. And the natural disasters accruing was quite tense and kept me on my toes. Pretty good movie!

Bad acting, story line really sucked

Pure, unintentional comedy gold.

This movie suuuuuucks, not only is it mind-numbingly boring it reminds me of one of those really good movies "Gladiator" as a cheap remake. Going against a historic volcano eruption like Mount Vesuvius AND a Tsunami they simply out run the tsunami, which is impossible, they have some sort of battle and a chariot running through the streets all while there's a damn eruption. It makes no sense!
