Dutch, a soldier of fortune, is hired by the U.S. government to secretly rescue a group of politicians trapped in Guatemala. But when Dutch and his team, which includes weapons expert Blain and CIA agent George, land in Central America, something is wrong. This is a solid movie. It's like The Evil Dead: it's not a masterpiece, but it's good. Very good. It's entertaining at least. It's like a slasher film in a jungle with aliens. Let's begin. The actual story isn't really anything to phone home about, but it's good: a rescue team go to a jungle to save hostages, and there's an alien in the jungle that's hunting them for sport. It's a tense story that's done effectively, and Dutch slowly adapting to the situation and fighting the predator at the end is incredibly satisfying. The best part of the film, however, is the actual predator. It has a cool design, looking like a real animal, and it operates like an actual predator, slowly picking off the characters and when it takes the mask off, it looks as scary as you'd imagine it to be. Well, I think it's kind of cute, but I can see why people would find it scary. Overall, a great movie and great start to the franchise.
