Presence Reviews

Apr 23, 2025

This is a slow burn drama that shows a different side to a home haunting. Are all presences bad; possibly not and this movie depicts an incredible version of that. I really enjoyed this and found some scenes spooky but dramatic than anything.

This was a interesting movie. It brings an intriguing twist on the idea of a haunting. It was so calm and flat but yet it grabs my attention for a hour and a half. A definite recommendation.

Incredible film that demands to be rewatched the moment you’ve finished it

I enjoyed the plot and storyline. Was not a fan of the filming and shots.

The film promises a lot, but fails to live up to expectations.

This is a horror film if you consider people to be the monsters in some instances. The ghost was just cute.

Apr 19, 2025

This is probably the most boring scary movie ever. The whole movie seems like was shot with an iPhone wade angle camera. I got the sense that this was the first movie produced by the producer. What a waste of Lucy Liu in this movie. Do not recommend!

POV of a ghost, a big brother's redemption, the life of a busy woman and a father whose only weapon is asking for help. Not your typical horror movie, but it's a nice message.

Steven Soderbergh's Presence is contuining education that a ghost story can be outside of the horror/jump scare genre. Presence follows a family moving into a new house following the tragedy of their youngest losing two of her friends. The entire film is seen from the perspective of a "presence" that inhabits the 4-bedroom Victorian even before their arrival. If you are expecting Paranormal Activity with a steadi-cam, you will most likely end up disappointed. Presence's 84 minute runtime gives you just enough character development not to be left in the dark, but instead invested in the family while the slow burning story builds to a conclusion that I found simple, original, heartfelt and terrifying all at the same thing. This movie deserves a 10/10 rating. A POV film with u looking through the eyes of a spirit hell yes if this was screening at my cinemas I would've gone seen this.

From a technical aspect, it was good watching it from spirits POV was interesting. But the characters and story fell completely flat, The twist at the end of the film was Meh. I Was expecting more from Steven Soderbergh, its was disappointing.

Presence (2024) Do Not Waste Your Time (11,575 – 30 Mar 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) Rebekah (Lucy Liu), her husband Chris (Chris Sullivan), her son Tyler (Eddy Maday) and her daughter Chloe (Callina Liang) visit a well located old but renovated house with the real estate agent Cece (Julia Fox). They buy and move to the house, where Chloe feels a supernatural presence, but her family refuses to believe. Chloe is grieving and missing her friend Nadia, who recently died. When Chloe meets Tyler’s friend Ryan (West Mulholland), they date and have sex with each other in the house. But soon the family witness supernatural events in the house, and the clairvoyant Lisa (Natalie Woolams-Torres) and her husband Carl (Lucas Papaelias) visit them, but they believe they are a couple of charlatans. But the entity is still in the house. Is it Nadia? “Presence” (2024) is a disappointing movie directed by Steven Soderbergh and a complete waste of time. The plot goes nowhere and is boring. The idea of using the camera to be the entity’s eyes is interesting in the beginning and annoying after a few moments later. The constant fade-out is irritating and breaks the scene and the tension. Unfortunately, this movie does not work and is overrated since Steven Soderbergh is a Hollywood’s darling. My vote is three. That much hype for that movie... What a waste of time. What's wrong with modern horror movies? Almost 90% of them that come out are worse than any horror movie from the 80s, 90s, and 00s. To anyone reading this, don't waste your time.

A slow build … I really liked this movie it’s unlike any ghost / haunting movie I’ve ever seen. The tension building atmosphere and authentic performances hook you in. The movie does start slow but as the tension builds you become captivated and invested in the story of this family and this house. There is a major twist towards the end that comes as a complete surprise.

A refreshing take on the supernatural sub-genre of horror. The viewer taking on the role of an omnipotent bystander who helplessly watching the films events unfold. Incredible sound design and top notch acting. This won't please everyone as it's void of many of the elements that make a horror film... well a horror film... 7.9/10

Probably the most boring movie I've ever seen. It's supposed to be a horror movie, but it's not scary at all. Also, there is no instering characters. The plot is pointless

I like this movie, because it is very familiar territory done differently than the run of the mill ghost movies. I like the twisty surprise into the mind of a budding psychopathic serial killer; and I like the fact that who you think the Presence actually is, is completely up to you. Could some things be better? Sure. The ending came too quick; and the psychic's scenes were clunky. Overall, however, it's worth a watch.
