Red Rooms Reviews
A model as well as a computer hacker, Kelly-Anne (Juliette Gariépy) becomes obsessed with the trial of an accused red room killer. Very intense film portraying obsession balanced by two women who have opposing positions on the trial. One a fan of the accused, one determined to prove he's guilty. Gariepy is magnetic as a character we find unknown and familiar. I never did decipher what her motivation was.
With subject matter as dark as its possible to get half of me wishes I had never watched this. The other half marvelled at the performances of the actors and the parade of grotesque characters. A twisted film of undeniable power.
Hypnotic and deeply unsettling. More of a dark drama thriller than a full-blown horror movie, but it nonetheless manages to be pretty disturbing and creepy.
film that disturbs the mind and soul.
I just don't get it. What's the point? If there is no point, why the movie? Perverted torture and snuff videos exist and are accessible on the so-called dark web? check. People watch them for reasons that, in some cases, are hard to learn or to understand? check. If this is a "thriller," sorry but there are no thrills. If it's a psychological quest, it goes nowhere and learns nothing. If it's some kind of arty movie that the author "just needed to make," then he can have it; why should I watch it? I just didn't get it.
I really didn't understand the point of this movie at all, and a lot of things that happened weren't clear.
Disturbing and mostly enjoyable movie. This is a French Canadian movie that follows a woman who becomes obsessed with the trial of a serial killer. There is a lot of mystery as it leaves vague her motives or exactly why she is obsessed. This obsession leads to troubling outcomes. The plot is a bit slow and requires attention so not a casual watch by any means but it is entertaining just because of the originality of the story.
Even with great acting, direction, and cinematography, all is wasted when the screenplay and storytelling fail so fundamentally. I had no desire to follow the main character through this film and stopped watching after 20 minutes.
An absorbing journey through obsessive pathology, heartwarming friendship, morbid fascination and class unity.
A twisted movie that is so effective because it seems so plausible. Beautifully hauntingly shot
I want my time back. Red Room (2025) is not horror. It’s not even a movie—it’s two hours of nothing. It teases, lingers, and drags, tricking you into thinking something—anything—is going to happen. It never does. The most exciting part was my own imagination trying to fill in the blanks, hoping for a payoff that never came. No scares, no tension, no purpose—just empty scenes pretending to be deep. If you’re thinking of watching this, don’t. Save yourself the time and frustration. It’s a skip.
This movie, labeled as a horror and a thriller, was very much less than thrilling. We don’t get to see anything horrific the entire time. I get the “message,” yes, people get obsessed with serial killer stories and true crime documentaries, so not showing any of the actual horror throughout the movie is purposeful. It’s meant to slap true crime enthusiasts on the wrist for their “hybristophilia.” Bad viewer! You shouldn’t want to see any of the ugly stuff! Fine. We’ll take our jones for the morbid and watch an actual scary movie. At the end, you’re left with only questions and no answers. Waste of time.

Took me by complete suprise. Stunning work. Watched it three times already. Gave me complete chills. Can't wait to see what Pascal Plante does next. Bravo!
Dark and gripping. Juliette Gariépy is amazing. Her character complex and fascinating. Not crystal clear towards the end, but that's ok. It leaves room for speculation, and a second viewing.
If you’re looking for chills, you’ll find them here.
Featuring an incredible performance from Gariépy, this is an eerie and mysterious work about the margins of darkness in the online realm.
Interesting character study of a young-woman's obsession and eventual involvement in the trial of a serial killer., with Gariépy beautifully portraying the weird, alienated Kelly-Anne. The frustration for many viewers might be the artsy pacing and the dissatisfaction of never learning WHY???? This is the kind of movie where when it's over, you want someone to explain it to you, but an interesting ride all the same.
I watched this only knowing the basic premise. The film has a compelling plot with unexpected developments. Part of the pleasure is trying to guess the central characters motivation. Excellent performances especially the lead in this unsettling and perplexing puzzle. Credibility is stretched especially the denouement however its flaws it’s a fascinating watch. Whilst the subject matter is horrifying, it’s handled for the most part with relative sensitivity. As a mystery it still leaves us with questions about certain scenes that irritate rather than illuminate. Red rooms has to be lauded for avoiding the generic and confounding our expectations yet not submitting to the literal.
Very well played. I really was invested in the characters. The mood was distant at first, but by the end I wanted more. The movie really draws you into the world of Kelly-Anne. I will definitely watch it again.
