Red Sparrow Reviews
A lot of uncomfortable scenes, a somewhat confusing plot, not so interesting story or characters overall, they kept acting like she was a prodigy, yet she didn't do anything particularly special, a forced narrative of her being amazing without backing it up.
"Red Sparrow" is one of those movies I was genuinely curious about back in 2018. I never got around to seeing it and decided to check it out, as it is directed by the winning team of director Francis Lawrence and with Jennifer Lawrence in the lead. It was interesting to see this "Hunger Games" duo make a film that could fully go for the R-rating. I think when it first started out the movie was interesting. I think as it went along I started to like it less and less. The movie eventually becomes tedious and boring and I just didn't like it by the time it ended. I think Jennifer Lawrence does a decent job in the lead role, but I never really got behind her character. Overall, this is a boring and convoluted espionage movie that tries to be edgy with explicit and violent content, but ultimately is a bit of a snooze fest and a letdown.
A slow paced engaging story of a women being trained by the russian government to be a spy all the while you could never truly know what side she ill be on.
Waste of time to watch this messy script.
I don't know why this is rated so low... because it has a multidimensional story line that most people can't understand or keep up with?... "convoluted" rotten tomatoes says... I say boarderlining on genius. I hope I'm right in thinking the ending left it open for a number 2.
I enjoyed it a lot. Apparantly some people find the story convoluted, but I think they are just not used anymore to spy stories with a smart plot. Gotten too much used to a lot of running and shooting and jumping off roofs. I certainly was not surprised by the ending. Made sense to me.
The ending made the intelligence community seem not so intelligent. It was like a comedian trying to tell a 3 part joke with a great setup and a fantastic punchline but somehow messes up the build up thereby making the joke come out somewhat flat and JL’s stellar performance couldn’t make up for that.
This feels like it was written by a few writers who didn't each get to see the entire script. The plot constantly derailed itself, and whilst Jennifer is stunning throughout, even she couldn't carry this one. Not deep enough, and yet way too drawn out in parts, and thoroughly nonsensical.
this is a challenging and compelling thriller. there are many twists and turns; even having watched it three times, i'm still not sure i could tell the entire story. i'm sure some people found it confusing, but jennifer lawrence is wonderful, as is jeremy irons and joel edgerton. an excellent nuanced thriller.
Plenty on gratuitous sex and violence. But too slow to catch a cold
Whoever said this was a good movie count your days. It was slow, boring and super long for nothing, the twist was disapointing and the supposed dark scene were actually pretty boring.
This is an excellent film. I certainly wasn’t disappointed and I loved every minute of it. Admittedly there was a torture scene in the film that was quite hard for me to watch but I feel this film, Joy, Silver Lining's and this film have to be Jennifer Lawrence’s best films to date. Passengers wasn’t bad either. The acting and script kept you on the edge and I think this film was underrated. In my opinion this film should have at least four stars overall. I’m actually surprised it didn’t do bette4 in the box office.
I rewatch this movie every year simply because I love the acting, the premise, the main actress, and the never ending twists. It never gets boring because I can always go back and find another detail I had not noticed before. I dont mind the lenght of the movie, and I enjoy the fact that the audience cant know for sure who is the lead really working for right up until the end.
Hard to imagine what a movie requires for it to reach an audience. 'Red Sparrow' is similar to 'Anna' in that a female has to fight her way out through a system forced upon her to attain the freedom she seeks. Both movies had a compelling story line, female heroine, loads of action, and both movies received mediocre reviews. While the #1 movie this week is Hit Man, receiving 97% rating on RT, which I saw only last week and I can't remember anything about the movie only that I thought it a waste of time while watching it.
Umm... Not badly acted or directed with some well written scenes and tension but oh my god.(All of the Russian accents are bad btw)
I had never, in my entire life, seen such a stereotypical and prejudiced view of our brothers, who make up the Russian people.
I Loved this movie. Exciting. Cringe worthy. Sexy. Intriguing. Clever. Suspenseful. Complex. Worth rewatching. I got a couple descriptions online but they fit so well.
A very enjoyable spy thriller with impeccable cinematography and performances. I was hooked the whole time!
I found this a very realistic spy thriller. While some may the sexual exploits a bit much, I think that this is how many spies get information. The torture and lack of trust were believable, as well.
I almost appreciate the movie's willingness to be consistently nihilistic, however once the plot moves past the truly weird training sequences it becomes more predictable and a little dull.
