Resurrection Reviews

Jan 5, 2025

It was a great movie, until you realize the writer/director never actually wrote a movie and just had a good idea for one. They hit 80 minutes of Rebecca Hall breathing heavily, and then were just like “ok, do whatever for the ending.” It’s so arrogant and pretentious to say you left it open for interpretation, even though he also says that it’s not a “statement film.” Basically, there is no point, he didn’t actually write a good story, and he had no ending. Lazy. I have lots of great ideas for movies too, the problem is that I have no ending for any of them, which is turn makes them quite shite ideas.

Genuinely awful and meandering for no good reason. If you want to make a movie about a woman who cuts people’s stomachs out do it in purpose instead of making such a long, confused run up that doesn’t know what it’s doing all for a fifteen minute finale that means nothing

The acting is top shelf. The movie is not. I thought at the very end the main character would be shown in a mental hospital and the whole movie was just in her twisted head, but no. You are supposed to believe that the father killed and ate a baby and it has lived inside his gut for 22 years until the mother gave him a brutal DIY c-section. A procedure that kills him and frees her baby to now grow up like any other child. Apparently, she is not investigated for the horrific murder of the father. Also, we are supposed to believe that during the stabbing and the slicing of his abdomen wide open with a steak knife, the baby suffers not even a scratch. A waste of 100 minutes. VERY DUMB! D-

It was good until it got really weird and completely ridiculous. Save your time and skip this trash. I don’t know why moviemakers these days have to do the most weird crap to try and be provocative and edgy.

the performance here is beyond stellar, but the ending wasn’t nearly as mind shattering as everyone made it sound.

Ms Hall is a movie star and you cannot take your etyes off of her. She is in deep to the character. This film is absorbing and distrurbing and a great find.

It's ultimately just too much of a stretch to totally work, which is a shame because Hall and Roth give phenomenal performances.

Though slightly mysterious, and a bit unhinged here and there, this is mainly a dull and repetitive affair. Even the supposed "shocking" ending is nothing to really get excited about. The acting is excellent, and I do respect the efforts of the main characters, but the story is barely interesting and could/should have been truncated. The longer it drags on, the more the same things happen over and over again, the more I found myself reaching for the remote to fast-forward. My sympathy and empathy for the female character dwindled, and I just wanted the whole thing to be over. And speaking of endings: if they make no sense, or aren't wrapped up perfectly that does not bother me; in fact, I find that sort of thing quite refreshing. My issue is with the movie as a whole. Overall it is simply an uninteresting film that I regret taking the time to watch.

Mala, aburrida, lenta. La santa trinidad de películas bazofias.

Plot created hoping to attract some attention, hoping to participate in some festivals, there are some terrible scenes where the actors cannot be convincing perhaps because they probably failed to integrate well with this project, totally incomprehensible, as I said At the beginning created specifically to try to attract some attention, 7 nominations no prize !!!!

Little suspense. Totally drawn out. Unsatisfying ending. Nice acting and art direction.

This movie was absolutely a let down. Some crazed rendition of a spousal abuse PSA.

This film really adds up to nothing. Implausibility is usually not an issue in horror films; you suspend your disbelief. But this one has such an absurd premise that my skepticism made it impossible to engage in the story. The entire film is actually just a setup for the inevitable body horror scene. It's pointless.

A cut above the usual. Classy all the way through, but definitely not an uplifting film.

Shocking and morbid, but kept me thinking long after the credits. Some of the most depraved psychological torture I've seen in a film. Stellar acting by Rebecca Hall, an actress to watch for in darker genre films, and the always strong Tim Roth in a way you've never seen him. A beast of a metaphor for violent and abusive maternal experiences.

Rebecca Hall and Shudder present a story of a woman trying to escape but is still caught with the horrors of yesterday being brought back Hall is Margaret, a single mother in Albany with a successful career and a loving daughter named Abbie about to leave for college But she's also sleeping with a married man Things turn dark though when a man Tim Roth as David shows up from her long forgotten past Clearly something happened that makes her quite terrified seeing him again Margaret intends to keep herself and her daughter safe from whatever this man might be planning on doing But her psychosis and emotional stability begins to wane There's a big scene of Hall pretty much divulging the reason she is afraid of this man, I gotta say this is some powerhouse acting on her behalf It's allowing the audience to soak up all the pain and misery This works as a sharp psychological thriller not knowing if Margaret is too traumatized or ideally out of her mind The ending is also very brutal but quite cathartic, heck it might even be the most memorable scene This is another one of those films that delivers a ruthless tale of domestic abuse and psychological trauma For many women this is an impossible thing to deal with lest even forget and when faced with it again is even more daunting The suffocating control is almost never ending The script is very grounded in reality but again when it all wraps up it's up to the viewer to decide on how they should interpret This story is all about a woman undone because of one man's presence being a threat and no one else can help Yes this feels uneven as a whole not making everything entirely clear cut but again Rebecca Hall's committed performance is the high point This is pure horror for the mind

Rebecca Hall incredibly riveting kept me involved in this hard to believe premise. Talk about insanely weird.

Well made psychological horror/thriller. Good performances from everyone involved.

Resurrection walks a tight rope until you realize the film spends most of its time being repetitive and chasing its own tail. Despite two fantastic performances from Rebecca Hall and Tim Roth this psychological thriller never comes close to satisfying after the first act build. There is virtually no chance that the victim in this film doesn't phone record the stalker and take it to the police. For crying out loud, she goes to the police in Albany, New York when she looks like a lunatic. I just didn't buy it. He is verbally torturing, but she won't do anything which isolates her from everyone, yet she just shows up at her job after weeks off. None of this really makes any sense. Andrew Semans wrote and directed, but this needed several more passes. That ending... Ugh! Final Score: 3.7/10
