Revenge Reviews
Revenge is a promising first film and, with any luck, perhaps Fargeat will approach her next film with more of an eye on instilling some dimensionality into her characters to achieve a stronger sense of catharsis.

Once you transcend the gore, the sheer originality of its dynamics, the ingenious transgression of its point of view (...) makes it a thrill ride of mythic proportions.

The stylization is sensory overload with micro shots of movements and radical colorings.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Apr 14, 2021
Beautiful, brutal, insane and glorious, Revenge is a tour de force of twisted creativity that the horror genre has not seen in years.
| Original Score: 5/5 | Feb 6, 2021
It knows it's exploitation and it drives home that it's exploitation, but it redefines this whole rape-revenge sub-genre in the process.
| Original Score: 3.5/4.0 | Sep 21, 2020
It doesn't totally reinvent the rape-revenge premise, but it rips the male gaze out of the audience's skull. It's iconoclastic, bombastic, beautiful, and brutal.

I still can't believe that this brilliant thriller is the debut feature from writer/director Coralie Fargeat. I truly can't wait to see what she does next.

It's nervy and gut wrenching yet thoughtful and somehow beautiful in a strange way. This is a stunning debut.

The emotional and mental effect on the characters and the viewer is what hits the hardest and not the obvious violence that unfolds through to the end.
| Original Score: 4.5/5 | Apr 12, 2020
It knows its niche perfectly. It fills that niche precisely.
| Original Score: 9/10 | Mar 23, 2020
It more than satisfies and exceeds expectations and hopefully will serve as a turning point for the genre.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 4, 2020
This is not feminism, it's exploitation disguised as feminism.

Revenge rolls out a blood-soaked red carpet that Coralie Fargeat walks with breakout regard.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 7, 2019
What makes [Coralie] Fargeat's tale rather unique is its female perspective.

Revenge is not quietly revolutionary. It makes its message quite clear. Loud, brash, neon-colored and shot like a music video, the flick is unabashedly cool.

Those who look for blood, drugs, caricature,... will be more than satisfied. [Full Review in Spanish]

Instead of the typical rape-revenge movie through a perspective of men envisioning the trauma and subsequent vengeance of women, this story challenges the male gaze.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Apr 28, 2019
Revenge is a beautifully realized, amusingly sick, pointedly subversive and uncompromising piece of exploitation that is sure to shock and nauseate in the best of ways. I can't wait to see what director Coralie Fargeat comes up with next.

...packs more of an impact than any 10 random 'straight-to-disc' titillating terrors.
| Original Score: 16.5/20 | Mar 4, 2019
Jen is a revenge heroine for the ages. Smart, resourceful, and determined to show those bros just how wrong they were to underestimate her.
