Ride the Eagle Reviews
Bad film, terrible title. 5 sweet movie stars!
Bizarre and silly. Perhaps that's what this world is coming to? Although I didn't identify with much of it, it still entertained. Saw on Hulu.
Honestly when the movie started I had high hopes. The first half hour was great and intriguing. Then, everything you think is gonna happen, just doesn't happen. He never really finds a solution for his problems and the movie just kinda ends.
Small cast, quiet, introspective yet funny film. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Not a lot happens, but that might have been the point. The past can hurt us and keep us from growing, which this film does a good job at reminding us of. It's important to forgive past wrongs, grow from them and become stronger.
A hilarious emotional rollercoaster that dives into what to expect if your estranged mother dies.
This movie had so much potential but fell so flat. I even hate saying this because I love Jake. I had to FF thru the phone calls because they were too silly & unrealistic. Just a weird energy to it
Really well acted with old fashioned traditional story telling. An uplifting grief and reconciliation film.
Overall, bringing a pleasing combination of drama and comedy, Ride the Eagle is an enjoyable film with heartfelt and comedic moments. Jake Johnson's pleasing and rather likeable performance meant I found myself quite invested in his character. Side performances from J.K Simmons and Susan Sarandon felt brief, but they both still delivered highly effective moments. The pacing is great for the most part, but I felt the film's weakest moment was the finale which seemed slow and vague. The humour managed to make me chuckle several times, but sadly some sexual jokes just didn't quite work for me or overstayed their welcome. In the end, I can't deny how much heart this film has, and I had a positive time watching one man's journey to rediscover himself.
Airplane movie in every sense of the phrase. Watch this on an airplane and then never think about it again
"Satisfying, fun and well-worked trip." Without standing out for its narrative, Ride the eagle is the story of a man who processes all the feelings derived from the loss of a close relative. A well-balanced, funny and sincere story, but at times it goes too fast. The chemistry between the characters is very enjoyable and fun, especially the outstanding work of Jake Johnson and D'Arcy Carden. Ride the eagle, has a beautiful photography, a very good soundtrack, funny moments and good performances, a beautifully constructed film with an important message about the meaning of happiness and the importance of connecting and interacting with the people we love. "Ride the eagle gets things done pretty well, a genuine and heartwarming film for these strange times"
Nice sweet light comedy
Simultaneously light and heavy, Ride the Eagle succeeds as a fun dramedy about a man's loss of his mother. It leaves a very minor footprint, but is enjoyable and heartfelt throughout.
Ride the Eagle is a wonderfully thought out journey that certainly soars high and takes you with it. Buckle up! The interactions, conversations, and remarks from Johnson are hilarious and heartfelt. Each character is developed extremely well, side by side with Johnson, who keeps us interested by essentially narrating the film in solo shots. A great film from start to finish.
An interesting movie that begins by a smiling lady delivering news of the guys moms death. And things develop as slowly and weirdly. I fought it to be excessively depressing to be listed as a comedy movie.
What a quirky, wonderful movie. So different than anything I've ever seen. So happy I took the time to see it. Wonderful story, and top notch acting.
This was bordering on a .5 to 1 stars rating. It was not torturing. But that is 1.5 hours of my life I will never get back. The tasks he is given are not predictable but not interesting. Most of the plot is predictable. The acting is fair at best. Nora, the dog may be the best actor in the film and that is not saying much considering the dog's activity in the film. The emotions, the plot could have been so much better based on the original premise of the film. Don't waste your time
I loved this movie. Funny, sweet and touching. Jake Johnson is great, as is everyone in the small cast.
Ride the Eagle is a very genial, offbeat film that offers some gentle laughs without ever reaching any great heights. Jake Johnson is always very watchable and he is again in this short film about grief and moving on. He plays Leif, who suddenly finds out his mother has died. They haven't really spoken for years but she has left him her cabin in Yosemite National Park. But he has to travel there and complete some tasks to take possession of the cabin. The tasks are rather aimless though, one including connecting with a love that got away. The humour is there but it feels a little forced at times and for a short film it feels rather unevenly paced. One for a rainy Sunday afternoon.
