Rock of Ages Reviews
Rock of Ages – A Fun and Entertaining Musical Experience "Rock of Ages" was an excellent movie that I thoroughly enjoyed! What really stood out to me was the fact that the actors performed their own singing—it added an authentic and unique touch to the film. The music was fantastic, featuring classic rock hits that made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I loved how the movie didn’t take itself too seriously. It had the perfect balance of fun, energy, and nostalgia, making it an entertaining watch from start to finish. The cast did a great job bringing their characters to life, and the overall vibe was lighthearted and engaging. If you're a fan of rock music and musicals, this is definitely a must-watch!
This movie is completely underrated! A must see for anyone with nostalgia for the eighties!
First time I watched it I wasn’t sure how I felt. So watched it again and just loved it. It’s just silly fun. Do not take it serious and just have fun.
Nothing, but a mostly good melodious time. Nostalgia and power ballads, you get out the same energy you go in with, so fun/cheese, willing to suspend your disbelief and push aside Your repulsion of Tom Cruise, you WILL get nothing but a good time. Lose yourself in the campy over the top world built for exactly this purpose.
Rock of Ages is one of my favorite musical comedies...The Broadway show, that is. The movie, however, doesn't quite hit the mark. Several characters are changed, the story is massively different and, while the songs are quite fantastic and when the jokes land they REALLY land, in the end it's just too dumbed down and it works too hard to embrace its silliness rather than try to convince the audience it's an awesome time like the Broadway show does.
With solid performances from Hough, Boneta, and especially Cruise along with good musical performances covering the great rock of the era, Rock of Ages is a fun watch that lets you just sit back with a tub of popcorn and enjoy the nostalgia and sing along with your favorite hits.
A Tom Cruise musical was never anything I expected to see in my lifetime, but the project featured 80s music, the rest of the cast was promising, the director had recently made the irresistible HAIRSPRAY five years earlier, and musicals were becoming all the rage again. Well, they can't all be winners, can they? Somehow the makers of this film managed to make some of the most important songs from my late childhood/early adulthood years borderline unappealing. There is not a memorable performance to be found - a couple performances are downright bad. And the whole enterprises has a quick and cheap feel to it - I suppose you could call this the Taco Bell of recent movie musicals.
The characters where a little flat
I know that Rock of Ages is categorized as a musical comedy, but I don't think it's comedic in the ways the filmmakers intended. I wasn't laughing with it, I was laughing at it. I would say that the songs are good, but they're good independently of this film adaptation, and the real versions are better. Rock of Ages also suffers from its casting. I couldn't take certain characters seriously because I couldn't see past the actor playing them. Also, I can't say that the story probably plays better on stage, because from what I read, they completely changed it. Skip the movie, listen to the music.
Although Diego boneta and Juliane Hough's starring parts were poorly performed in a hair rock parody such as this it really added something to the film! Tom cruise and all the other big name celebs really smashed it. This film is great fun with simple comedy and writing that really works well for this kind of movie. This film definitely isn't a world changer but if you take it for what it is and just enjoy it as great songs and a great bit of fun very few films compete
It's cheesy, loud, and hilarious. Rock of Ages has the main storyline of a teen Disney movie, but with Cruise, Baldwin, and Brand rounding out the supporting cast, it's still a rolling good time.
Not sure why everyone is out to slam this movie. I mean, I get it, the singing is mediocre. However, It was made to entertain audience and to sing-along to classic 80's rock songs. If your looking for a cheesy, fun, and enjoyable movie with a rock-n-roll loving monkey give this a watch.
I hated that it was a musical and the characters were terrible, I enjoyed seeing Cruise the role though, it was different and funny lol
For me this movie is too underrated, the covers are really good, I love the song that they used, the outfits and hair styles very well done, the sets are beautiful, You can see the 80's everywhere, the script maybe is very simple, the movie just want to be entertaining and that's all, and it works for 2 fun hours.
I don't understand all the hate for this film. I would definitely give it a watch if you want a simple fun movie to enjoy. It's entertaining and the cast is packed. It's not winning Oscar's but it's a fun musical adopted into a film. People complaining about the music doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me unless you are a person that hates this era of rock. I can't imagine half the people that saw this truly hate these songs. Fun performances all around and you can see the production value and thought that went into the film. Just enjoy it for what it is!
It's really hard to bring Broadway to the Screen. I enjoyed the filming and transitions but yes it is predicable and cheesy. Tom Cruise was an interesting pickI enjoyed his role. I enjoyed the movie worth a watch once if you are a musical fan. Don't expect too much but it's good.
This movie was the cherry on top of all the bullshit in my life, I pretty much wanted to bleach every conscious part of me while watching the "I wanna know what love is" scene" (I won't be listening to that song for a while). And wanted to cry out of frustration. I already dislike Tom cruise, so this was just everything I needed to want to go down to my room and cry myself to sleep.
Love the 80s - but this was so bad! Unwatchable
