Shotgun Wedding Reviews
It’s annoying and flat and doesn’t let you form connections with the protagonists.

A reception to avoid...

Shotgun Wedding is the latest showcase for JLo as she returns to the romantic-comedy wedding genre. The film moves between action and family drama and features an eclectic cast.

Better than expected But not more than that... sadly forgettable

There’s nothing especially bad about Shotgun Wedding, but there’s nothing especially great either.

What should be a fun adventure doesn't quit hit the mark. Duhamel feels horribly miscast which leads to a rom-com where the comedy doesn't land and the leads have no chemistry. It's watchable, but totally forgettable.

Instead of tossing the bouquet, Jennifer Lopez unloads semi-automatic weapons on a band of brazen pirates who dare to crash her umpteenth matrimonial flick. It’s as dumb as it sounds. Perhaps, even dumber.

At the end of the day you’re watching two stars that have chemistry and commit to the physicality and hilarity needed for this to be fun. And it is. For better or worse.

The jungle-like setting works fine here and helps us believe in the film’s story. Plus, some of the stunts are quite exciting.

If you’re looking for a glossy, breezy time, 'Shotgun Wedding' will be right up your alley. If you’re looking for chemistry, substantive humor, and meaningful filmmaking - look somewhere else.

One regrets RSVPing to such dull and predictable action comedy. [Full Review in Spanish]

Shotgun Wedding isn’t the worst rom-com ever made, but it’s the type of generically terrible offering that serves as a reminder of why my beloved genre fell out of fashion — a fate that Jennifer Lopez herself may be partially responsible for.

Jennifer Lopez proves there’s nothing she can’t do in Shotgun Wedding

While the director Jason Moore spends much of the film demonstrating how good Lopez looks at 53, Coolidge steals every scene she is in as the mother of the groom (“when I’m in formal wear I like to pee standing up”).

Excellent for JLo lovers and for the rest, if you are full of patience, maybe the nonsense gives you a couple of laughs and that's as far as it gets. [Full Review in Spanish}

It's a film that belongs to 1996, maybe.
| Feb 11, 2023
The action is mediocre and the chemistry between Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Lopez is non-existent.

JLo has never been funnier, and the over-the-top comedy is a great start to the moviegoing year.

Jennifer Coolidge's White Lotus has shown us we love seeing rich people in turmoil in exotic locales - this film does that too, just with a higher body count.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Feb 8, 2023
Shotgun Wedding is entertaining only during the third act as Lopez transitions from Rom-Com Queen to her Fighter mode. It just took so long to get there. The film would have fared better if it focused on the romantic portions rather than action gimmicks.
