Borinnnngggggggggggggg

Another John Wick type of movie, It's stylish and its always great seeing an army of bad guys shot and stabbed to death. But it doesn't amount to too much.

Little slow, but good action

Be ecological. Don't waste money for electricity watching this absolute nonsense. I wasted the first 30 minutes watching the main character just grieving. This is by all means the worst movie I have seen in years! And I have seen many. Ed Wood is a master director compared to this piece of something.

A sorrow father wants revenge for the killing of his son is a very common thing in an action movie. But with no dialogue at all is something new. This would be an additional for my must watch list Christmas movies.

It's a fun action ride, nothing new or groundbreaking, but it is entertaining. It's in the vein of Kevin Bacon's "Death Sentence" and Garner's "Peppermint". if you've seen those, you've already seen this. But, that's definitely not a bad thing in this case.

This movie is about as exciting as having Haemorrhoids, it was still boring on fast forward. Movie should have been all over when he was shot in the throat as that is unsurvivable as where most of the other gunshot wounds and batterings taken. Best place for this is in the garbage

Dear god this was painful to watch.

Great stunt work as Kinnaman goes all John Wick on the gang bangers who killed his son. Lots of driving action. Found myself saying "how did they shoot that without killing someone?". There's a gimmick: no dialog.

Strange decision to make this literally as the title suggest. Good enough for a watch but I don't see this as a yearly seasonal watch.

We nearly abandoned the film part way through but soon realised the lack of dialogue was a good thing and made the story that much more powerful. Definitely worth sticking with it for an action packed but very violent ending.

I can't recommend this movie to anyone. I get that the whole thing is no dialog, but there are times where that completely pulls you out of the moment because there's no reason for other people to not be saying anything. The action is good... but that's the only thing worth watching. There are some very strange zoom shots and slow mo shots that are just weird. Nothing is really explained in the movie, like how did he find where these guys were? Where did he get all of his information? I think the premise could have been executed much better.

Somehow the protagonist gets shot in the throat and not only does he not die, but the bullet is somehow lodged in his throat. That is some accurate firearm knowledge right there. Because he can no longer speak, neither can anyone else, apparently. Then he’s somehow able to find more information on the gangs than the police, even though he worked for a power company. More absurdity throughout the movie, but probably the best part is that the gang leader’s girlfriend had her own name tattooed on her chest. You know, in case she forgot. This is one movie where we won’t thank John Woo for anything.

Good action and a moving sentiment about a father’s love for his son, the concept of no dialogue makes it a different experience but prohibits the stars from making any real connection with the audience. Cool action film, you know what you’re going to get pretty early on and that never changes.

I'm sorry, I really wanted to like this film but it ended up being quite boring. You'd think that after leaving Hollywood 20 years earlier, there would've been something in the script that encouraged John Woo to finally make his long-awaited return but Silent Night turned out to be little more than a clichéd revenge film that combines John Wick with A Quiet Place and has some Die Hard-style window dressing. There are good things about this film such as the acting, which has to rely solely on facial expressions and body language, being quite good, I do like the scene transitions and visual touches Woo added to the narrative and the action being enjoyable, even if the more realistic approach made it comparatively forgettable next to Face/Off and Mission Impossible II. But the dialogue-free angle is little more than a gimmick where the in-story justification was unnecessary since the scenes set before those events already had everyone keeping their mouths shut anyway, the tone can get quite melodramatic and there's surprisingly little action until near the end, which wouldn't be a problem if the drama didn't leave something to be desired. Seriously, Face/Off dealt with the "grieving father" angle better. At least, it's much better constructed than Lionsgate's other crappy action movie of 2023 Expend4bles, but that's still a low bar to clear for a movie whose best scene was a moment from before the plot fully kicks in where Jason Statham beats up an influencer. I don't recommend this film, even if you're a diehard John Woo fan. Hell, I can't even in good conscience suggest it as a movie to watch for your Christmas fix in the same vein as Die Hard, Lethal Weapon or even Reindeer Games with how arbitrary it feels here. At least the latter film has a "so bad, it's good" charm to it.

Definitely the worst movie I've seen in 2024 (written in Dec 2024); quite possibly in the last decade. This is one of the dumbest and most boring movies of its kind, and in order for dumb action movies to work, it needs either 1) insanely cherographed action, or 2) a charismistic star the audience can get behind. This film is completely devoid of both, yet insults the audience with the MOST IDIOTIC plot devices ever known to man kind. John Woo, sir, as a Hong Kong-ese, I am considering disowning you.

**1 Star Review** What a letdown. A violent Christmas movie *could* have been fun, especially with John Woo at the helm, but *Silent Night* just didn’t work. The whole "no talking" gimmick sounded cool, but in practice? Super awkward, especially in the emotional first act. Like, why are these people just staring at each other when they should be *talking*? Joel Kinnaman tries his best, but the generic revenge story drags like crazy. The pacing is awful—it’s painfully slow, and by the time the action finally kicks in (a whole hour later!), it’s too little, too late. And even then, the action isn’t that impressive. The story is way too thin to justify this runtime, and the attempt at dramatic buildup with no dialogue just felt weird and boring. I went in with low expectations and was still disappointed. Not entertaining, not fun, just a total waste of time.

Why was this movie even made?! Great action sequences but that's it!

This is a very good movie that unfortunaly gets completely burried in the first hour (or a little more) of pointless and shallow character "development" that could've easily been summarized in 10 minutes or so. Which, as i said, it's unfortunate, as the last 40-30 minutes are a solid 9/10 in terms of the pratically the only thing it has: action. All the action scenes are extremely well directed, filmed, scripted and acted.
