Sister Reviews
While Sister isnt without its issues, this drama remains something special, the films final moments an avalanche of genuine human understanding that had me happily reaching for the tissues while also letting out a silent euphoric cheer of appreciation.

Aside from the strong performances, there's beautiful, saddening cinematography, too.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Jan 9, 2017
Scorn may give way to momentary solicitude, but Sister is by no means a tenderhearted morality tale.

What a beautiful and desperate film.

[An] absorbing French drama.

For fans of Ursula Meier's last movie, the strikingly offbeat domestic drama Home, this act of auteur-on-auteur emulation may feel like a comedown. Yet it's still stirring work.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Jan 9, 2013
Strong cinematography, excellent performances, and a deft touch with how adulthood can be forced upon what should be carefree adolescence make it emotionally memorable without ever feeling manipulative.

The movie takes a refreshingly low-key, observational approach to storytelling ...
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Jan 3, 2013
"Sister" avoids sentimental indulgence. There's no room for wallowing in this spare, almost ascetic exercise ...
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 6, 2012
Seydoux perfectly captures the anger and self-defeat of ill-educated, hedonistic, man-chasing young women who live on the fringes.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Nov 9, 2012
La Seydoux fulfills Louise, and Kacey Mottet Klein, as Simon, is one more to join the pantheon of film's excellent child actors.
| Nov 2, 2012
Klein and Seydoux give such naturalistic performances that they're never overwhelmed by the spectacle.

Haunting and sad. And absolutely worth seeing.

Meier's portrait of Simon ... is richly atmospheric and never sentimental.

It is an interesting and well-made movie, though with an uncertain ending.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 25, 2012
Sister gradually reveals pattern in its tapestry of everyday life.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 25, 2012
An expert piece of storytelling with a host of strong character turns and thematic depth to burn.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 25, 2012
A healthy seam of mischief helps cut through the occasionally rote social comment.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 25, 2012
An unusual, involving, slightly strained character study from Ursula Meier, the French director of 2008's satirical dystopia, 'Home'.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 23, 2012
The chemistry between the two leads is a razor's-edge dance: feral, childish, tender and always complex.
