Sister Reviews
Great movie. Great acting. You can understand why Simon did what he did for his sister. You can feel Simon’s pain. Things like this actually happen in life folks!!! Praise the Lord Jesus Christ and missionaries around the world. That’s how you will feel in the end.
Although it is a good portrait of how poorness also happen in richest countries, the movie lacks of rhytm, action or dramatic pulse. So, I feel too much generous giving it 2.5 stars.
One of the best films I have seen in the past couple of years, great performances from the cast. Ursula Meier really managed to capture the constraints of Simon (Kacey Mottet Klein) and the dysfunctional relationship with his sister, Louise (Léa Seydoux)
The characters are extremely hard to identify and sympathize with. The story also came to basically no conclusion. Moral of the story is that people suck I guess?
Surprising things are revealed in this film that promises mostly coming-of-age antics and teenage thievery. It will make you question relationships, how they were formed, and how they continue. It's a good film with lingering questions.
Excelente, un drama duro y muy bien logrado. La actuación de Kacey Mottet Klein es excelente logra transmitir la falta de cariño y el deseo de una familia de manera espectacular. Un guión muy bien estructurado y una fotografía de calidad.
At the tender age of 12, Simon(Kacey Mottet Klein) is the man of the house and has all the responsibilities that go along with it. That has a lot to do with his older sister Louise(Lea Seydoux) not being to hold down either a job or a boyfriend. So, Simon travels up to a nearby ski resort where he steals anything that is not nailed down which he sells later to support them. While there, he finds an unlikely business partner(Martin Compston) and meets a friendly tourist(Gillian Anderson). Even without much of a story to speak of, "Sister" is still a harrowing tale of survival on the edge. As such, sometimes it is a little hard to watch but in the end is quite worthwhile. That is set around a classic separation of the classes who only rarely meet on personal terms. But in this fictional world, things are rather topsy turvy, encapsulated in the enigmatic final shot and symbolized by a huge plot twist 2/3 of the way through that while maybe a shock is actually not all that surprising.
Its lead actor Kacey Mottet Klein, delivered a very powerful performance. He led most of the movie excellently, with it's supporting cast les by LÃ (C)a Seydoux. The story was very different to what I was expecting it to be, but it turned out to be very good. It's main theme was very mature and sad, but the great acting made it till the end, making the movie bolder and better.
A haunting portrait of desperate souls that takes its ques from the French New Waves and lives up to its influences. Netflix streaming now.
Really well done movie. I wanted to feel sorry for the pair of them, but I just couldn't, they were too unlikeable with their actions. But then part of me understood why they were both like that. Very subtle film that does challenge you a little. Gillian Anderson is barely in it. Not sure why she has top billing. Her character is really nothing here and could easily have been omitted. Very
Strong, emotional yet simple film that is unpredictable and both desperate and hopeful at the same time.
4/5 --- Wow, a small film with several powerful messages. I teared up twice, some spectacular scenes visually of the mountainous snowy landscapes and the low-key type of drama I enjoy most. Lea Seydoux can be in anything and I'll watch. Her choice of films are bold, bold in acting and bold in topic. The story surprised me.
Recensioni arretrate 4: Della serie dare la patente prima di fare figli e che la Svizzera non é sempre tutto questo paradiso. Film coraggioso e originale.
In the vein of Pialat, Malle, and the Dardenne brothers--Ursula Meier beautifully perfects the domestic drama, creating a high standard for future filmmakers as well as the current giants of cinematic realism. 9.1/10
