Sisters Reviews

Gets a lot of mileage out of its surefire premise...

| Original Score: 3/4 | Oct 11, 2024

Sisters is a house party film told by and from the perspective of women, and that is precisely why it succeeds.

| Aug 1, 2023

Sisters is one of those comedies that ends with a series of outtakes over the end credits, and by the looks of it, the talent had more fun shooting the film than we did watching it.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Apr 23, 2022

Whether or not Sisters is the best use of Fey's or Poehler's gifts is beside the point; they're entitled to blow off the same dopey steam that propels the likes of Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner in all those Fockers movies.

| Feb 9, 2021

It's a simple comedic premise squeezed for giggles by a likeable cast.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Feb 3, 2021

This film feels like a Judd Apatow movie and there are some laughs, but not as many as we expected from these two talented comedians.

| Oct 23, 2019

It's so disappointing that the usually hilarious Fey and Poehler have indulged themselves with this paper-thin plot...

| Original Score: 1/5 | Apr 17, 2019

It can be fun and enjoyable, but the spark doesn't stay alive for very long before all the shenanigans get to be somewhat repetitive and underwhelming.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Apr 5, 2019

Sisters just feels like they jumped in front of a camera without a plan and rehashed that terrible brand of humor where they rely on the shock value of four-letter words and general crudeness instead of crafting real, clever punch lines.

| Original Score: 4/10 | Feb 22, 2019

Sisters is such a funny movie, I honestly began to question if I was somehow mixing up my affection for Fey and Poehler with cinematic success.

| Original Score: 8.5/10 | Aug 30, 2018

The floor belongs to Fey and Poehler though, the female comedians striking back against the Star Wars empire. Good luck to them.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 22, 2018

Not only does it pack in the laughs but it also manages to find sweeter moments reflecting on the idea of accepting the loss of youth.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 22, 2018

Like so many films by SNL alumni, it struggles to keep up the pace, and a few good scenes - or skits - are all you get.

It may not be perfect, but what sibling relationship ever is?!

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Nov 5, 2017

The end result, complete with token, tacked-on Yuletide ending, is something that -- for the clever, talented Fey, in particular -- is definitely not a step in the right direction.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Oct 26, 2017

Sisters looks like the kind of family affair that Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen have dominated the box office with, but these Sisters are doing it for themselves.

At the screening I attended, a man beside me, horrified, kept shouting, "Oh my GOD!" whenever [Amy] Poehler or [Tina] Fey said anything remotely crude. If that's not a resounding endorsement, I don't know what is.

| Aug 22, 2017

Sisters is a film that is best seen on a plane. That's about all there is to say about it. But I think that women should be able to coast a bit, as we had a pretty good year.

| Aug 16, 2017

Sometimes you have to peel off the Band-Aid to let the healing begin, so here it goes: Sisters, the new comedy starring the great Amy Poehler and the great Tina Fey, is crap.

| Jul 26, 2017

Sisters, like Bridesmaids before it, is a welcome reminder that when world-class women get a chance to helm a big-budget comedy, everybody wins.
