Skinamarink Reviews

Apr 26, 2025

Be warned, this is not a traditional horror experience. There aren't moments (at least that I can recall) that make you really scream or jump; there are no moments that truly release any tension or dread. The entire film builds to ultimate despair. There are no satisfying moments of respite after a thrill, it's completely suffocating. In this way, it's enjoyable as art, but soul-crushing otherwise. In essence, Skinamarink presents the viewer with a new hell never before imagined. NOTE: Have captions on, trust me.

My favorite horror film from the moment I watched it! A brilliant slow burn. I could sit in this vibe forever. The use of weird camera angles, filters, and very little dialogue sets an intriguing, unsettling tone. This is definitely not for the watcher that needs constant gratification or stimulation. The simplicity of this film is what makes it truly incredible.

Unwatchable self-indulgent, pretentious nonsense. Poorly lit. Badly conceived. The product of someone who was told by too many fawning relatives that they were "so clever" and started to believe that it was true. It wasn't true - or they were kidding. One of those films that was made only so other people could pretend to be deeply moved by the "cinematic experience" while expressing pity and being dismissive of anyone who doesn't agree with their insecure and shallow opinion. An "Emperor's New Clothes" experience that should not be encouraged as I regret the time that I will not get back that I spent watching this tedious annoying nonsense.

I never cover my eyes or look around my house to see if anyone is there out of fear whenever I'm watching a horror movie. Skinamarink changed that. Though this movie isn't for everyone, it was for me. Terrifying to its core.

This movie what I could see went way over my head or maybe under.

BORING!!!!!!! NOT SCARY IN THE LEAST! If I wanted to look at light fixtures for nearly 2 hours I'd rather go to Lowes....

I'm not sure what I just watched... well, the first 20 minutes anyway. Certainly unsettling. I guess some people will get something out of this, but not me. As some have said, this would have been much better as a short film, perhaps a maximum of 20 minutes long. Hard to recommend to anyone really.

To this day Skinamarink remains one of the most deeply unsettling and utterly horrifying films I have ever seen. A childhood nightmare in its purest form.

I signed up for RT just to post this review. Absolute garbage. This movie is plastic and has no merit. Its aesthetics aren’t even ground breaking. What triggers me the most is that the movie blurb mentions Lynch in it. The gall.

This is movie you HAVE to watch alone, in the dark, with the volume up to take in its full effect. One of the most unsettling movies I have ever seen, one surely to divide horror fans. Will either love it or hate it. if you watch as instructed above, it’s hard not to love

Insidious and haltingly gripping. A too-real nightmare to be watched alone, in the dark. Fair warning if you have children of your own.

Very boring movie that does not respect your time. I recommend hiding in a dark closet for a more genuine experience.

Bout fell asleep waiting for anything good or creepy to happen. The odd camera angles and constant static are sleep inducing. I get how the concept could be creepy in the eyes of children but that’s all. The disembodied voices at time were creepy but that’s the only creepiness that could make you jump.

This is me and my sisters absolute favorite to watch when we want a good spook to discuss. While you do have to have some patience I think you really need to be able to comprehend and think deeply about what your watching. more so hearing and imagining what could be there. I really recommend it to those who enjoy a. good psychological and want to dig deep while watching. I love being able to find more in the film every time.

The hour of nothing happening is not worth the thirty minutes of nothing. I understand it’s supposed to be fear of the dark but it really just felt like look at the wall and occasionally read subtitles

Skinamarink manages to capture a type of shadowy fear that lives somewhere between a childhood fever dream and those sleepless nights of anxiety we all had as kids. If you were a child in the 90s, you might have a dozen or so of those random 2am memories which you can't truly know were real or a nightmare you are misremembering. What they managed to capture with this film really is something unique. It's like a time capsule to a specific type of childhood fear only a portion of the viewers can truly appreciate. You might remember those nights as a kid where you were up late and floating between periods of sleep and late night confusion. Those nights where your toys went from playful faces to demonic idols staring from across the room. The way shadows would stretch down the hallway outside your bedroom door into what seemed like infinity. The pacing is slow and may even drag on to some viewers but what it delivers in terms of buildup and sense of unease is a pure kind of fear that takes you back to the most vulnerable time of our life. Do not go into this expecting traditional supernatural horror. Go into this like a sensory experience which is going to transport you back to a memory you didn't know still haunts you. It's worth experiencing.

The WORST movie I have ever seen. Everyone involved with this should never be able to work in this industry again. No part of this movie is able to be discerned because the creators wanted to be “artistic”. This movie reminded me of the reason modern art is terrible. “Art is only good if others outside of the creator enjoy it”. This movie seems like the creators jerked themselves off to death and then called it the best movie ever. If you’re still reading this, do yourself a favor and watch literally anything else

Admittedly, I wasn’t initially very interested in this film. I sent the trailer to the wife cause I thought she’d find it creepy, zoomed through the actual film and found it boring. But, she insisted we watch it. So we did, in the dark, in silence. This low budget Canadian film executed well the creep factor. It is very unique, in that the entire film is from the perspective of a child. Some of the few things that transpire are unsettling, considering the nature of what happens. The ending could’ve used a better demon, but overall I’d recommend checking this one out, if you can appreciate a broad spectrum of horror and are not pigeonholed into only appreciating small subcategories/subgenres.

There’s a lot to unpack here. It is a unique style of movie, and it definitely gets points for trying something new, but it is far too long for something that is far from scary and doesn’t really have a defined plot. The movie is very much left up to interpretation and thus could be perceived as great, but when there are too many different directions and such it’s hard to develop a purpose for the movie. Ultimately, the films attempt to horrify me failed. Essentially, it was a unique experience, but an agonizingly boring one.
