This movie is batsh*t crazy with it's script but also has a very bizarre ton problem. It comes off as a Romance movie like The Choice, other times it becomes Kurt Russell's Breakdown, and sometimes it feels like a dark comedy unintentionally. Overall the editing is just ok. The script makes perfect sense but the events are so out of left field at times and clash with the tone this has. It tries being gritty and raw, than sentimental, than sometimes it's confused, than funny, and it jsut turns on a dime. This messes with the pacing and acting which is just alright becuase of it. Seudkis gives a good performance especially that opening monolouge which is the best part of the film unfortuately. But his character is so contradictory. He's a nice honest guy yet he goes to have a dude he killed chopped up, kidnaps the dude's son, jumps parole, and becomes a seasoned killer in a scarface like takedown. Than the villian is like the nicest most polite villian you'll ever meet. I don't buy he's even a villian because his performance is so muted and amicable. The son is so annoying also and if you wanted me to get any sympathy well you failed. Lilly is good and the most consistent thing except beliving her husbands a great dude despite seeing he's a murderer and staying with him over a childhood blood pact which is kind of stupid. The character motivations and mixed performances just give a mixed bad overall. Everything else isn't bad though. This has some good camerawork,, framing, direction but it can look a bit dull at certain points. Particulary night scenes. It's just very odd with it's tone and character actions/motivations that just don't make much sense despite the script making enough sense. Thus it makes it have a very weird changes on a dime in tone because of it. This needed to figure out what kind of movie it wants to be and because it's not sure, the character motivations are muddled also and weigh it down. This starts out pretty good honestly the first 30 minutes. But the more the crazy crime elements are introduced the more the tone problem rears it's head. Skip this unless your a big Lilly fan.

Loved the chemistry between sudeikis and lilly. It's a very good crime movie with a satisfying ending.

South of Heaven es algo extraña en su presentación y resolución del conflicto, Si nos guiamos por el poster de la película no esperaría un drama combinado con una película de acción/crimen que se compone para el 3 acto. Aharon Keshales si impregna ese toque de acción en películas que tal vez no la necesitan, pero mi problema con esta película es que el giro de tuerca para introducirlo más que forzado me pareció un despropósito para la misma narrativa. Y viendo el historial de este director, si hay un patrón en tener necesariamente ese trasfondo de la delgada línea entre esa fuerza de autoridad contrastando con un personaje más terrenal, ya sea en ‘Big Bad Wolves' ‘Rabia Asesina' y esta película. Aun así, me pareció reconfortante ver a 2 actores que estamos acostumbrados a ver en blockbusters en una película más personal. La narrativa de la película para mí se divide en 3 mini historias, la primera, la frotación de la mortalidad de Annie y Jimmy, la 2 (que para mí es la mejor) en la que toma un giro de 360 grados muy bien lograda, en la que se desarrolla un conflicto más basado en una película de crimen, que aunque es el que más me gusta, la lenta resolución de los 2 puntos de vista diferentes que se establecen me pareció muy aburrido, y muy risible ya que se contradice con el tono tan pequeño e íntimo del primer acto. Culminando con un 3 acto climático totalmente innecesario en el que se cierra el arco narrativo a través de secuencias de acción, que la de casa se me hizo muy ingeniosamente filmada, pero este cambio tan repentino de tono le terminó restando importancia a la escena y peor aún al dilema principal que era el destino que ya todos veíamos venir para Annie. Pero, aunque cada uno de los 3 actos de la película sea totalmente diferentes, algo que si me gustó fue que el conflicto interno de Jimmy siguiera siendo el mismo, no importa cuántas trabas le ponga la vida, él busca tener la mejor actitud y hacer las cosas lo mejor que se pueda, aunque siempre por cualquier razón el mismo destino le termine poniendo el pie, me gustó cómo se sobrellevo este dilema moral del personaje, aunque también me parece que se pierde un poco su contundencia con el 3 acto. Dónde repito el primer giro de tuerca me gustó, para mi hizo más dinámica la narrativa principal, teniendo un sub arco que nadie de nosotros veíamos venir en una historia de amor. Que de echo me gustó mucho cómo pasaron del 1 a segundo arco en una alegoría al pastel en la que al corromperlo los 2 principales desafíos del arco de evolución de Jimmy le ponen fin a su libertad tanto superficial como interna. Lo que me hizo más gracia de toda la película fue el personaje de Mike Colter, ya que es el peor traficante de la historia, en toda la película no tuvo un solo acierto, todas sus decisiones fueron mala, haciéndolo involuntariamente un chiste andando, aunque con el planteamiento inicial de la historia si termina por sacarte de la película. Visualmente la película me gustó mucho, hay escenas realmente buenas que referencian a cintas road-trip, que relucen más cuando la historia se da el tiempo de centrarse en planos naturalistas que realmente me encantaron, la fotografía hace un gran trabajo en sin decirte en donde se desarrolla la trama sabes qué lugar es. Es la luz de la historia que retumba en una dirección muy convencional. South of Heaven es sobre valorar el tiempo, ya que no sabes quién va a ser el primero que se adelante.

It's nothing to write home about, the plot is full of holes. Still, very entertaining.

Despite Jason Sudeikis and Evangeline Lily's solid performances, South of Heaven was a tedious and painstakingly slow drama.

Sudeikis, refreshingly, doesn't exactly fit the role of a convict on parole that wants to spend a year with his lifelong love, Lilly. But everyone is a caricature of the role that they play and it tanks the possibilities of the crime/thriller part of the film.

Original and with some great performances from the leads. I liked it.

Strong southern noir with an standout performances from a cast invested in the emotional throughlines of their characters. Smartly-written and directed by Aharon Keshales who demonstrates a knowledge of film history and craft. Already due for rediscovery and appreciation.

South of Heaven 2021 (rental) is a "Coen" brothers style fiasco movie (Fargo) but played for tears not laughs. It doesn't really work as everyone is slightly miscast, the first half hour of the film is paced as slow melodrama, and the ricocheting level of reality/fantasy violence undercuts the story. The ending works although I would have likely "pulled back" further in time. A flawed film but not a complete waste of time if you see it on 온라인카지노추천 (2 1/2 stars out of 5). A wonderful movie! This movie is so touching and so surprising it stays with you for a few days after watching. Great acting by Both lead actor and actress. Great screen play directing and cinematography. Great rhythm and music. I hope it will be nominated for some big awards.

It’s refreshing seeing a movie with different style and substance. Tired of the same old plot lines Hollywood churn out. Sudekis and Lilly shine and have chemistry.

Promising start with an intriguing plot and strong casting, but the movie failed to take advantage of these and rapidly descended into B-movie terratory. There seemed to be a half-hearted attempt to turn the film into an action movie with the least realistic portrayal of gun use since Schwarzenegger's Commando. There was a ray of hope there would be a surreal Thelman and Lousie or David Lynch ending but we were even denied that. Shame of it is, Sudeikis is maturing into an actor of the calibre of Will Smith or Tom Hanks who can switch effortlessly between drama and comedy, but he won't get there if he continues working on movies like this.

Sudeikis is a outstanding comedic actor, but his dramatic chops leave something to be desired in this messy crime/thriller that really loses its grip on the plot halfway though.
