Space Cadet Reviews
Spacey in more ways than one, Space Cadet is a frivolous and dizzying adventure that makes space camp 'camp'.

Roberts carries the film with her charm and comedic timing, making even the corniest bits feel a lot more fun than they should. Overall, this one is too rough to recommend.

It’s impossible to look past the absurdity no matter how hard you try. As a result, not only does the story suffer but the characters do as well. They’re all so thinly written and as unconvincing as the silly tale they’re handcuffed to.

The cast are good, the astronaut training program setting is certainly unique and there are some laughs to be had. The writing is what lets it down, as it lacks character development.

A cinematic misfire that lands somewhere between the Moon and your grandma’s old VHS tapes of Legally Blonde and The Room
| Original Score: 2 | Jul 12, 2024
Filmed at the US Space and Rocket Center, the film also has just enough space geekery to please younger Nasa fans. Read less

Apart from the lives at danger because of its protagonist, watching the way NASA operates in this film with no background checks, quarter-assed interviews, handing over jets to those with no flight experience it’s enough for them to lose funding forever.
| Original Score: 0/4 | Jul 9, 2024
Space Cadet is incredibly funny, but it’s also about someone pursuing a life she thought she’d missed out on, and finding her own strengths when she feels like she can’t measure up.

Writer/director Liz W. Garcia plays it safe here, with a result that has no surprises but is effectively entertaining, thanks largely to Roberts’ performance.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Jul 7, 2024
You’ve got a reductive movie striving for inspiration it can’t and shouldn’t earn.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 7, 2024
It’s hard to imagine anyone becoming too inspired by this cheesy wish-fulfillment fantasy about female empowerment and following your dreams that feels completely detached from reality.
| Jul 6, 2024
This is a film that bases its protagonist in Florida, presumably as a means to give a tiny bit of credibility to the abysmal and misguided lunacy that unfolds
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 6, 2024
Roberts works so hard trying to fashion a recognizable character out of a fistful of cliches tossed in a paper bag with a big hole in the bottom.
| Jul 5, 2024
Considering this genre has such a low standard and Garcia’s movie cannot even meet that low-hanging fruit, you shouldn’t reward a film for wasting your time so blatantly. After all, that is our most valuable asset.
| Original Score: D+ | Jul 5, 2024
Space Cadet feels rushed and poorly planned, lacking in plot, performances, and direction. There's nothing redeeming about this film.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 5, 2024
Films like Space Cadet should feel graceful and light, going down easy like the many sweet cocktails we see Rex prepare, but this one is hopelessly muddled, a bitter first sip that proceeds to curdle.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 5, 2024
An astronaut version of Bringing Up Baby never develops, and the mild Legally Blonde fizz doesn’t last, either.
| Original Score: 5.6/10 | Jul 5, 2024
It purports to celebrate the pursuit of science, but this film may have single-handedly set the space programme back a decade.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 5, 2024
Emma Roberts gleefully embraces the silliness of this nonsensical comedy.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 4, 2024
Suspending your disbelief feels like an art form when you’re dealing with Space Cadet – one that needs to be learnt long before you plan to watch this!
