Spice World Reviews

The girls themselves sometimes have a chemistry, but are normally annoying paper-thin characters, but still quite fun.

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Jan 7, 2023

The film would do well to trust the girls, who have great fun playing caricatures, rather than padding the film with a series of unconnected cameos. The result is a madcap, but often overwhelming comedy.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 22, 2022

I was struck by how well it stands up-the pacing is better than you'd expect-and also how fantastical it is...

There's great stuff in here for sure...but it's almost there, which is frustrating, because it's a bit too muddied and doesn't; have a through line.

A gem of a movie. It attempts a lot in terms of satire, but it is much more edited and selective in its approach.

| Jan 21, 2022

Little more than an excuse to exploit the success of the Spice Girls, this feature is a grossly lacking project, even for those who enjoy the music.

| Original Score: 2/10 | Sep 24, 2020

A bizarre artefact that captures the sheer oddness of the Spice Girls' rampant hold on the British (and indeed, global) consciousness for a couple of years after 1996.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Nov 4, 2018

Exceedingly silly yet generally entertaining...

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Jan 24, 2018

Can the Spice Girls act beyond their assigned personas? World doesn't stop spinning long enough to answer.

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Jan 9, 2018

This film barely manages to tell a story at all.

| Original Score: 2/10 | Aug 23, 2017

"What's the plot?" you may be asking. Well so am I.

| Jun 21, 2016

A promotional tool that establishes its superfluousness simply by existing, this clumsy, smirking movie has a bitter soul.

| Jun 21, 2016

Full of silly, swirling fantasy sequences and breezy backstage glimpses into their ``lives'' - not to mention an album's worth of new tunes - Spice World offers a fanciful view of fame and female camaraderie in the fabulous '90s.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Jun 21, 2016

Spice World is a smart vehicle for the Girls, a cheerful and occasionally witty self-parody that does for the Spices what Help! and A Hard Day's Night did for the Beatles.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Jun 21, 2016

Spiers makes what was conceived by the Fullers as an album plug play as an actual movie. Though it will doubtless pain many a critic to say so, Spice World is a kick.

| Jun 21, 2016

The first (and as it transpired only) feature film to exploit the enormous success of pop quintet the Spice Girls, this is an attempt to capture the comedic style of the Beatles films, and not nearly as bad as it might have been.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 21, 2016

A movie about four months too late to endure in the pop-culture annals and about four stars too short to be a four-star movie.

| Jun 21, 2016

As an example of pop-culture debris, Spice World is absolutely perfect. Without, of course, being any good.

| Jun 21, 2016

The result is tiresome and a blown opportunity to launch the group to an entirely new audience. And I suspect those who already are fans will learn nothing new about their "Girl Power" heroes.

| Original Score: 1/4 | Jun 21, 2016

Spice World is about as awful and shamelessly pandering as a fanzine movie could dare to be.
