Spring Breakers Reviews
Somebody please nominate James Franco for some sort of award. His character of Alien in Spring Breakers was perhaps the most entertaining character we saw all year.

It’s Bonnie and Bonnie and Bonnie and Clyde with Day-Glo color, teen exhibitionism, and gangsta street violence, with a pop music score and a hip-hop mixmaster soundtrack and editing style.

Its juxtaposition of sound and imagery is stunning.

Whether [it] is a great movie or an uncommonly accomplished bit of fraudulence is an eye of the beholder thing, but there’s something to be said for a film that somehow captures and enshrines an era’s attention-deficit aesthetic...

Korine uses Gomez and Hudgens like Godard used Fonda in Tout va Bien: Symbols the film flips to its favor and against... they become sympathetic [fast] and turn into superheroes that seem to have escaped a white trash Barbarella. [Full review in Spanish]

Is it social commentary on today's young adult culture? I don't see how. Is it satire? I surely wish it was. Instead this was an earnest try at something...I don't know what.

Alien is the only character in "Spring Breakers" who feels like an actual human being; everyone else is just there to be ogled over or used for shocking imagery.
| Original Score: 1/4 | Dec 17, 2020
Spring Breakers also features James Franco at his absolute smarmiest, but the neon ambiance by director Harmony Korine's make this a definite recommendation...

Surrender yourself to a rather dark yet brilliantly entertaining view of the spring break experience.
| Original Score: 3.5/4.0 | Sep 24, 2020
Harmony Korine's take on a modern sexploitation movie about bikini girls with machine guns in the vein of a Monte Hellman flick.
| Original Score: B+ | Jul 9, 2020
[Harmony] Korine, per usual, doesn't take the well-trod path, and the results are more than pleasantly surprising.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Apr 6, 2020
Before the long, the movie turns into a numbing trailer for itself.

Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers is a visual delight. The 95 minute film feels like one giant montage that never ends.
| Jun 22, 2019
Finds transcendence in trash, wallowing in the basest instincts of human nature to create a mesmerizing and frightening portrait of a world gone mad and innocence destroyed.
| Original Score: 4/4 | Jun 8, 2019
Spring Breakers is a crowd-pleaser, although given its confounding creepiness, the crowd it pleases most is surely the forty-year-old filmmaker's intellectual fan base.
| Mar 8, 2019
Blazing a vicious, narcissistic trail straight through the eternally sacred 'American Dream', Korine has reaffirmed himself as one of his nation's most challenging, uncompromising talents.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Feb 13, 2019
This is Korine's trick: he pulls the audience into the decadence of Spring Break before exposing its soulless underside.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Feb 2, 2019
As transgressive as is, it never quite makes the leap to becoming transcendent of the pop culture it seeks to detonate.

No character, no real sense of narrative, no meaningful message. It's just terrible, shallow people doing terrible, shallow things.
| Original Score: 3/10 | Nov 1, 2018
Whether you love it or hate it, it's going stay with you.
