Stargate Reviews
The movie that started it all. Loved it when it first came out and still loving it now in 2025.
Nice scifi movie, flows well with quality characters and decent special effects!
Great movie that turned into a great 온라인카지노추천 series.
A 90's Sci Fi classic. It's very much a 80's fantasy adventure movie with a Spielberg like tone to it done in the 90's. Which is a good thing. It's got a lot of charm and childlike sense of wonder to it and a strong world/memorable setting. Great set designs and on location too. The cinematography is really good thanks to the really well done and clean special effects. A perfect mixture of digital while mostly practical. The costumes, great direction from Emmerich who hasn't yet fallen into self parody, and memorable action sets it apart. The music is really good and arguably the best thing. It's really well used, makes a lot of scenes even better, and really gives it a great sense of wonder, discovery, and adventure. I wish it was a bit more catchy on it's own. The acting and pacing is solid too. No one really has that much depth but there well acted, got some decent chemistry, and the villian is pretty cool too. There's charm to a lot of the side performances too that help. The editing isn't bad but it can get a bit jumpy at times. The setup before they go into the portal and arrive at the city is really good and the strongest part of the film. It does such a great job setting things up in a clear and concise way. It keeps the expose pretty simple and easy to follow. It does slow down a bit with the romance subplot, the villian, jumping between the other soldiers at basecamp, and when it cuts back to certain things it seems like it skips certain parts at times and just picks up right where we miss something. Maybe I wasn't paying attention enough I don't know. It happened a few times during the fights in general going between the bad guys and back to Spader & Russell. Regardless it's a simple enough story to still follow and despite the script being a bit unrefined at certain points in the middle and a bit in the end fight it works quite well overcoming it. I do wish we got more development with the villian as he was pretty cool and we just got a cool backstory but I wanted more. Regardless, anyone who is a fan of 80's/90's Sci-Fi, the director, any actors in this, or even Spielberg type films should give this a try.
para las personas que nos fascina la ciencia, astronomΓa, esto es fascinante los viajes de una dimensiΓ³n a otra, es ciencia ficciΓ³n.
Did the screenwriters even consider constructing a coherent PLOT for this PoS? It makes Water World look like a masterpiece! I bailed at the 90 minute mark. I guess the special effects were pretty cool for three decades ago, but besides the usual saboteur subplot that would embarrass Dr. Zachary Smith, what TF is in this?
Stargate is a conundrum, it failed spectacularly at the Box Office, yet was the start of Roland Emmerich's blockbuster career after getting a box office hit with Universal Soldier. The film itself would then inspire the probably the greatest Sci-Fi show of the 21st Century Stargate SG-1. It's odd because all the ingredients that the show use was originated in the film. Essentially the film does the heavy lifting the world building the mythology and SG-1 uses it as a jumping point. I think it failed because it is exactly that it looks like a big budget 온라인카지노추천 pilot it doesn't help that prime Kurt Russell looks disinterested having barely any lines, at the start he's supposedly suicidal after his child is dead from an accidental gun discharge, that rarely pays off here unlike in the show. James Spader is solid as the professor who is isn't believed by his peers but turns out us right all along. On its own it's a solid Sci-Fi film not particularly terrible but not blow your mind good but we do have to thank it for what came after.
It's Kurt Russel versus ancient Egyptians. But, not just any ancient Egyptians, alien ancient Egyptians!
This movie didn't get a fair shake at the time simply because of who the villain was played by. But it was epic then, and continues to be epic today.
just boring nonsense
One of my absolute favorite guilty pleasures. Loved this movie since I was a kid. It's just a fun time as long as you don't think about it too much. Just wish spader didn't choose to stay on an alien planet because it makes no sense but he might feel like an alien on earth so idk but I wanted to also see what happened when the soldiers came back to earth
Perhaps the second best sci fi movie of the 90s yess you heard it German auteur Roland emmerich aka master of disaster movie spectacle has made the very best sci fi films of the 1990s I love just sbot everything of it from the intriguing and imaginative story/plot to the memorably likeable and witty characters especially James spades who should have got an Oscar nom for this. It does a tremendous job in putting sci fi elements to an action adventure taking place in Egypt, itβs just baffling how Roger ebert hated this it is one of the films he got wrong cause stargate is a masterfully crafted work of cinematic perfection. Kurt Russell is also great in this and I love the interactions and even a plot point where spaders charachter fallla in love with one of those women they meet in Egypt and at the end he even stays with them.. everything classy about the 80s/90s action adventure and sci fi are here and this is one of the better and more critically widely acclaimed films of those two final decades of the 20th century, you can see all the stylistic touches including the action choreography, elegant cinematography ( which is comparable to that in Star Wars 1977-1983 ) the witty dialogue and great performances you expect in an action blockbuster. Bassically this was like Star Wars and Indiana jones collide it was a memorably thrilling action adventure and it was awesome π π π€© this was an exiting experience it has enough good taste, passion and valor you would want in movies like this Delvin and emmerich represent the best of hollywood blockbuster filmmaking and they sure have a brilliant talent for it and just like bay and bruckheimer they crafted some of the best of the 90s and I really wish they could reunite and work togeather again soo sad π they donβt cause this film and Independence Day will always have a special place in my heart π I love it to death everyone must see it for those who love Indiana jones, jaws, Star Wars, robocop, escape from New York, terminator, the rock, die hard, aliens, and predator. Itβs a masterpiece and a work of art in science fiction action fantasy 10/10 excellent
I wish they did movies like this nowadays. I've watched this in the theater when it came out and rewatched it yesterday after years and it holds up so well, even the special effects. There are some cliches in the plot (like the struggling young scientist with a new revolutionary theory, discredited by the scientific community and then recruited by some rich individual) but overall it's a fun, action-packed, visually compelling story. The 2-hour duration is perfect, I hate that most modern blockbusters are never-ending. In a couple shots you got all you needed to know about Colonel O'Neal backstory. To me this is great storytelling.
If you're into space, science, math and ancient artifacts...paired with a sense of imagination, you'll thoroughly enjoy this movie. If you're a one-trick pony movie critic you probably won't.
Stargate opens the viewers' minds to a whole new world that mixes science fiction, mythology, action, and adventure. Anyone who loves Egyptian Mythology can enjoy this film. One of my favorite movies of all time.
The perfect sc-fi adventure setup with the perfect cast for what could have been a cult classic in the making. Sadly, the momentum is completely lost a third into the story and things start unfolding very randomly. When we reach the climax almost all interest is gone. When so much effort has been put into everything else, why not fix the script?
Very enjoyable film, could have been a two or three part movie - as it is, itβs a story compressed into a something very entertaining with a lot of potential. The movie could be so much more, exploited later by SG1 etc
One of my all time favorite movies I had to give its deserved 5 star rating. The idea, story, and execution of a different type of sci-fi story at the time was a nice change from the normal stories told. Classic in my book.
Such a promising start that dives straight to pulp and poor writing in the second half. I loved the practical effects and puppets but when they enter the star gate the mystery is less and less. French stewart is very distracting and I wanted more but had fun. I love the 온라인카지노추천 series a cool show this is a humble beginning.
4.2. The story, let alone its concept, is remarkable. The adults acting do a tremendous job, the soundtrack is solid, and the film keeps you engaged all the way through.
