The Talented Mr. Ripley Reviews
This movie was amazing, and it's definitely one of my favorite thriller movies ever. Matt Damon was absolutely sinister in this movie, and it made it so enjoyable to watch. I definitely recommend it for thriller and drama fans!
The best Ripley movie I’ve seen. Not seen Delon version. Nicely done all around, with Damon being exceptionally creepy.
I liked the build up to & tension of the crimes. I knew some general spoilers for the movie, but the acting was incredible. I hadn’t seen Jack Davenport (Peter) in a lot personally, so he was a nice surprise!
Lonely unsettling. I love this tale and I really like the sense of Robin Woodery it brings. Definitely worth the watch.
Tom Ripley (Matt Damon) takes on many faces while traversing the many faces of Italy. A con man for whom we get little backstory, Ripley is thrust into socialite life in the picturesque, coastal town of Mongibello (Positano). The plot is a head-spinning array of attraction and envy. It is one of the better examples of an “in too deep” plot. The late 1950s Italian style is all-time. Ripley looks upon the stunningly handsome Dickie (Judge Law) at times as a cool older brother and others as an object of his desire. The way Damon is able to smile — like he’s pushing his teeth out the front of his mouth — is something I’ve never seen him do before. Philip Seymour Hoffman as Freddie, one of Dickie’s friend with the best line of the movie, “Don’t you want to f*ck everyone you see just once?” unfortunately receives the Boba fett treatment. He always was a screen-stealer. God, I miss him. The ending is shockingly dark with a lack of closure. I like it.
The connection between the actors made the movie feel so real. All the scenery and dialogues are what make this classic novel stand out.
One of the greatest films ever made. Jude Law, Matt Damon, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett and so many others each nail their part, and Minghella is the perfect director. How can you watch this, and not be drawn to all its humour, sadness, and existential angst around class and sexuality. You'll also quickly realise you probably already know a Tom Ripley, a Dickie Greenleaf, and a Freddie Miles!
A long journey that left me with a mix of sensations, not knowing if what I'm seeing is extremely boring and meaningless, or brilliant and incredible, and this indecision makes me feel entertained in a film with such good actors and script.
How far would you go to become someone else. The Talented Mr. Ripley is a 1999 American psychological thriller film written and directed by Anthony Minghella, based on Patricia Highsmith's 1955 novel 🚤 Awesome! 😀 I’d totally recommend it 👍🏼👍🏼 One of my favourite movies of the year ⭐️ Tom Ripley is a calculating young man who believes it's better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody. Opportunity knocks in the form of a wealthy U.S. shipbuilder who hires Tom to travel to Italy to bring back his playboy son, Dickie. Ripley worms his way into the idyllic lives of Dickie and his girlfriend, plunging into a daring scheme of duplicity, lies and murder.
The Talented Mr. Ripley is thrilling to watch as Matt Damon adds a dark horse, twisted and manipulative type character and Jude Law really plays the maniac, jazzy and arrogant character to make the film more thrilling to watch.
Creepy and excellent. Great cast.
The kind of character study that just doesn't get made these days.
A few plot elements felt too far fetched, they should've called the film The Lucky Mr. Ripley. Still a good watch though.
A crime story of a serial killer based on a novel – nothing ingenious. What strikes is the overwhelming presence of blondness and princely handsomeness zoomed in through the excellent artistic performance of the non-Leo-DiCaprio fair tandem (Matt Damon and Jude Law) of equally powerful impact back in 1999. After all “the Great Gatsby” was to come out 14 years later, and in the 2002 “Catch me if you can” Leo is brilliant and accelerating up the stardom highway. I wonder what Andrew Scott’s performance would contribute to the interpretation of this trivial scenario. Will let you know when I have seen it.
Watched this movie for the first time 25 years after it was made. I was struck by the absolutely amazing cinematography. A stellar cast all at the prime of their lives delivering an absolutely stellar performance is another feather in the cap of this beautiful movie. A magnum opus truly with wonderful screenplay, cinematography, direction, background score and fabulous acting.
Outstanding! Great acting, well cast, beautifully filmed, good script, good soundtrack, well directed. What more can I say!
An iconic cast and great source material lead to a fun and suspenseful movie, all located within beautiful scenery.
An entertaining film from start to finish with a great strong cast.
Topnotch performance of Matt Damon and the supporting cast.
