The Black Phone Reviews
The intro to this movie is so cliche I feel like I have seen it 50+ times. You can make a movie about a 70s kid and not make it about how he's getting beat up but he ultimately prevails. Not every kid in the 1970s got beat up. Movie starts at 30 minutes....
Definitely one of my favorite horror movies that I've seen. Based on a short story by Steven King, The Black Phone will keep you wanting more. Super excited for the second one coming out in Fall 2025!
Peak horror, amazing story, wonderful acting and crazy vibes
A fun movie but far from perfect.
Great plot with screen play to match. The acting is impressive, especially Hawke, Thames & McGraw. Very creepy, scary & action enough to keep me engaged from beginning to end. Look forward to the sequel!
It's well written the fact that it had people grabbing their seat. There are a few moments but honestly those are minor and have no plot effects really.
This is a super good movie but don't go into it expecting a horror. It's not made to be super scary, but super intense. It's supposed to make you feel anxious and uncomfortable
Was pretty good. Definitely wanted to keep watching. Looking forward to the 2nd one later this year
Don't let the (stupid to me) mask artwork keep you from checking this movie out. It's definitely a thriller with excellent character development. The less you know about this movie going in, the better. If you want to watch a movie that gets your blood circulating, this will do it without doubt!
"I like the movie; I do think it's bit overrated, but it's still good. Also the acting from everyone is really good.
I loved this movie it's amazing this movie has made me feel like I have something to go home to like I watch this movie so many times I can't even keep count with it it's amazing I loved all the actors and I'm really excited for the part two and I don't know how people can hate on this movie and I don't even know how it has 81 percent of rotten tomatoes it's so like underrated that nobody can like it gets so it's so hated that nobody watches it and people that love horror movies like me don't get to watch things like this because people ruin it and they say bad things about the actors they say everything this and this and that and that but one thing I like about it that it saved me like at first I was like what am I living for but now I'm like I have a reason to live for now
A wonderful slow burn Blumhouse horror. The movie is terrifying if you realize how realistic the kidnapping is. My sister and me bike ride a lot around our town so it really hits us by the realism from kidnapping. Also I love the extra spiritual part with the kids and you see what happened to them. The ending was also wonderful and the ax kill was very surprising. One of Blumhouse bests.
The film is well-made, the child actors do a good job, there are only a few dragged-out scenes, and while there are some questions about the script (which I'll discuss below), overall, it's still good. Even the secondary characters turned out well. The main antagonist and his supposedly foolproof plan: There are many ways to escape captivity, but in reality, the protagonist gave up on almost all of them halfway through. In the end, everything somehow came together in the finale (even the meat from the fridge and the code lock). However, before the climax, it wasn’t shown that the protagonist had placed the window grate in the hole. The problem is that the maniac doesn’t notice any changes in his prison: neither the missing grate, nor the dirt on the floor and under the protagonist's nails (which he can’t properly clean except by using the toilet), nor the chaos in the fridge, etc. Perhaps the focus on one method conflicted with the protagonist’s teamwork with the souls of the murdered children and the outcome of their joint efforts, but it feels like a head start from the maniac to the protagonist. In theory, this could be explained by the villain actually giving the protagonist a chance (like with the open door), allowing him to show his "mischievous" side, but then why did the villain so helplessly allow himself to lose, not to mention falling asleep in the chair while being on "ambush"? Anyway, I’d rather not have to work as a scriptwriter. Regarding the sister’s storyline: I assume the storyline with the sister hints that both she and her brother are connected to the afterlife. The brother can communicate with the dead, while the sister has prophetic dreams, and all of this is inherited from their mother. After all, the characters mentioned on the phone that only he was able to either hear or talk to them over the phone.
Decepciona se for levar em consideração o que alguns críticos disseram ser um filme arrepiante, assustador, que tinha gente passando mal. É um filme fraco no quesito terror, bem estilo IT 1. Temos uma ótima atuação da garota. Um roteiro interessante, mas nada espetacular.
Any Gen-X will feel the honesty of the ambiance of this film! I waited way too long to watch it. This film immediately transported me back to my small neighborhood in the 70's, to the atmosphere of growing up but meanwhile knowing that danger lurked on the perimeter in many ways. The porch lights, the limited law enforcement presence, the piece in entirety were portrayed with precision. An excellent work of art
Wonderful job Diddy you made a good movie
Flawlessly executed thriller (one *tiny* plot point annoyed me, but hey...), carried by brilliant child actors.
really good i enjoyed it a lot
Esse filme é muito bom.
