The Emperor's New Clothes Reviews
This is something to watch if you're interest or you like Russell Brand and his shtick. It does work fine for a good Sunday afternoon streaming watch, though.

Brand infuses dry wit into every moment. His non sequiturs are never non grata. Cutting together a thorough portrait of all those affected, this is a documentary that is hard to look away from.

Filmmaker Winterbottom has crafted an informative yet persistently erratic documentary that benefits from an ongoing emphasis on personal stories...
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Jun 11, 2018
In this Michael Winterbottom documentary, Brand's Left-wing agenda is undisguised and his views go unchallenged, but he tilts at the familiar windmills with passion, humour and some persuasive, if selective, statistics.

The structure of the film, as bouncy as Brand is himself, doesn't generate much more than curiosity. This is activism as oddity, and while that's not worthless the way some might claim, it's also not exactly inspiring.

The Emperor's New Clothes is watchable, though its long running time and slightly repetitive nature make it a bit warring for those who understand the financial situation.
| Jan 9, 2017
The latest effort from British director Michael Winterbottom is a well-intentioned but poorly executed documentary on wealth inequality.

[Brand] manages to make the information accessible and understandable to everyone. And everyone should be horrified.

Russell Brand does his best Michael Moore impersonation, except with results that are more muddled than persuasive.

It too often feels like "Button-Pushing Encounters with Russell Brand."
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Dec 18, 2015
Advocacy documentaries simply don't get better or more compelling than this.
| Dec 17, 2015
Brand is a hectoring irritant throughout the film, a walking info dump who occasionally makes a spectacle of himself for the camera.
| Dec 17, 2015
The Emperor's New Clothes is a scathing indictment of the rich.
| Original Score: 5.5/10 | Dec 17, 2015
The only experience more enervating than hearing about The Emperor's New Clothes is actually watching it.
| Original Score: C- | Dec 17, 2015
While it is short on analysis, it is excellent as entertainment and of some use for your friends or relatives who still think that capitalism is a viable system.

If it was slipped into 'Get Him to the Greek' few could tell the difference.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Dec 16, 2015
"The Emperor's New Clothes" is moderately effective agitprop.
| Dec 15, 2015
It can be hard to take someone so pleased with himself seriously, but amid his grandstanding, Brand does offer some solutions to problems many of us rightfully feel are intractable.
| Dec 15, 2015
It's more about hyping Russell Brand as a constituent for the people than locating the means for sustained economic transformation.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Dec 14, 2015
The main problem with this very low-budget film is Brand is repeating what has already been said in several far better documentaries about the effects of the crash.
