The King's Daughter Reviews
The most amazing piece of this production is the setting. Much of the movie was shot on the actual grounds of Versailles and that gives the production both a great feel of authenticity and grandeur.

The best thing that can be said about The King’s Daughter is that it is mercifully short at 90 minutes, though even that far overstays its welcome.
| Original Score: .5/4 | Sep 23, 2022
The movie looks (and sounds) just terrific, even as it lurches rather inelegantly in pursuit of the magic the characters so clearly seek.

Its not nearly as rancid as its seven-year delay would indicate, especially considering all the truly dreadful movies that hit the multiplex seemingly nanoseconds after filming has completed.

For a sci-fi, fantasy movie, The Kings Daughter has some good moments but not enough to make it an excellent film.

Two stories are being told in this historical drama, and only one of them kind of works.

It took eight years to make such a dud, I can only imagine how bad it was then.

If you're a fan of fantasy fables that belong in a RedBox kiosk, you may find it comforting to know that you could do only slightly worse than iThe King's Daughter/i.

A slapdash mix of poorly conceived drama, cliched dialogue, hammy acting, shoddy special effects and the scars of too many attempts to salvage something in post-production. On the bright side, the filmmakers didnt let Pierce Brosnan sing.

This Harlequin Romance meets fantasy fiction is given the glossy Hallmark treatment in a film that cant easily be described. Part legend, part adventure and all preposterous, this does the good people connected with it no favors.

The Kings Daughter is a fairy tale, but there is no happily-ever-after here for anyone, especially the audience.

The idea that it sat this long...I wish it just sat on the shelf a bit longer.

The King's Daughter - even with all the zig-zagginess that gets us to its predictable climactic moment - is pretty forgettable.

Plays like a game of YA mad libs gone horribly wrong.

Produced to a high standard and narrated in Julie Andrews' dulcet tones, this historical fairy tale fantasy is livened up by its sparky cast.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jan 27, 2022
It isn't fun or exciting or the least bit interesting. It simply is. I regret the 90 minutes I gave to this film and I hope that you don't repeat my mistake.

The King's Daughter is a would-be pop confection that would have been stale even if it hadn't sat on shelves for nearly a decade.

You don't need to be a film expert to recognize that this is a film that evidently stumbled badly at some point and never quite managed to regain its footing. The end result, to put it charitably, is a mess that never quite works.

[The King's Daughter] was postponed seven times, shot in the middle of 2013 and set to drop in 2014, then put on the shelf because of VFX issues. Too bad it couldn't have stayed there longer.

A very colorful French bonbon with no substance, and it might just give you indigestion.
