The Little Prince Reviews

The actual story it's telling becomes such a footnote in this pat-itself-on-the-back, self-congratulatory thing going on and on about "here's the story of the Little Prince, wasn't it a GREAT story? Weren't we brilliant for sharing that story with you?"

So few animated films try anything outside of the realm of normalcy; fortunately, Osborne's film realizes normalcy is, well, boring.

| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Apr 11, 2022

The beauty of the images of the Saint-Exupéry story and the music composed by Hans Zimmer make it very worthwhile. [Full Review in Spanish]

The Little Prince is a beautiful blend of a classic story and a new, compelling one...stars hang from threads, and you can almost hear them laughing.

It's a good film in many ways... but it's not a favorite of mine.

| Original Score: C+ | Apr 12, 2019

Even if you don't enjoy CGI, this film is worth the watch just to see the beautifully animated stop-motion segments and is a great way to introduce fresh minds to the story of The Little Prince.

This is further evidence of the unattractive industrialism and obsessive control tendencies at the heart of much of contemporary animation.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Nov 5, 2018

A good example of a good kids' movie, but the segments that truly capture the source material are absolutely extraordinary.

The stories' dialogue... make us see the importance of remembering the child we were. [Full review in Spanish]

We need more movies like this -- for children and adults.

| Original Score: A | Mar 21, 2017

It's the interaction of a sanguine realism with a celebration of the liberating effect of the imagination that makes the magic happen. That, and the exquisite animation.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Jan 20, 2017

This film, directed by Mark Osborne is multi-layered, with a story about a writer, an aviator, the Little Prince, and a young, modern day girl, who becomes friends with the aviator and who searches for the Little Prince told in the aviator's story.

| Original Score: B | Jan 17, 2017

Perhaps it's best to think of it less as an adaptation and more as an appreciation of what the book has meant to the world since its initial publication.

| Original Score: B- | Nov 29, 2016

It is deeply personal and profoundly moving, a sensitive and affecting portrait of humanity.

| Sep 26, 2016

Rather than attempting a direct translation of the book's content, they've captured its spirit by threading elements of the story into a modern-day tale about the dangers of sacrificing wonder to technology and commerce.

A very intelligent update of a classic that contributes by creating a whole new world. [Full review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 8, 2016

Even though it's not a literal adaptation, respects the book by developing in different layers. [Full review in Spanish]

A wonderfully creative, soul-soothing work.

| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Aug 26, 2016

There is both a fragility and immediacy to the imagery-as if watching it might give you a paper cut.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Aug 15, 2016

It can't help but be compared to the daring, challenging original.
